Old Compass Faced Directional Gyros Worked in the Opposite Direction from the Flat Faced Gyros we learned to fly with

 

Like with the wet compass we still use today think of pulling the desired heading towards you

With the Homing Gauge you can track to a station but not away from a station

In this case turn to the right

In the case of the Tsili NDB (Non- Directional- Beacon) home

To the station on the airport then fly the outbound magnetic heading of 040 degs

After 1 minute turn left a total of 90 degs then immediately to the Right a total of 270 degs

This is called a 90/270 course reversal also used on strafing runs

Now you can home direct to the stations 220 deg bearing

 using step down altitudes and configuring for landing
