Description: An Fs9 Avro Manchester MkI Late version update of Ted Cooks original model by Shessi April 2013

The Avro Type679 Manchester MkI was a twin engined heavy bomber for the RAF, developed in the 1930s. It came into service in 1941, but was soon found that the Rolls-Royce Vulture engines were under developed and prone to overheating. This caused a lot of losses of crew and aircraft, and limited the operational height of the Manchester squadrons, but help prove the need for fast heavy bombers. It was in service from Feb 1941 to mid 1942, and paved the way for the excellent Avro Lancaster.
This aircraft is OL-Q, serial No.L7427 of 97 Sqn June 1941, then became OL-J with 83 Sqn, and went missing on a mission on the 8/9th Apr 1942.

Updates include:-
1) Late version MkI, with mid-upper turret.
2) Multi-LOD ac for FS9 and CFS2.
3) New bomb-bay and bomb load 1x400lb cookie and 6x1000lb British bombs.
4) Guns in a more alert ready position.
5) New crew.
6) New skin texture for her.
7) New spinning prop and tex (choice of prop texs).
8) New glass spec.
9) CFS2 version has version with and without bomb load, new DP, new 4000lb cookie and 1000lb Brit bomb weapons made, which can be used in other aircraft.
10) CFS2 version has wheel retraction tweaked to stop them showing through wings tops when retracted.
11) A very low poly CFS2 ai version made for large bomber raids.
12) Tweaks to the airfile and ac.cfg for closer to real performance.
13) New 2D cockpit/panel made from JF's Lanc.
14) Non-moving, but correctly positioned controls in CFS2 version.
15) Control yolks now in VC view (moving in FS9 version)
16) The dreaded g_light_states and crash detection CFS2 problem removed.
17) Props now not permenantly feathered.

Downloaded what appears to be a wonderful model... however, after I extracted to FS9... it does not show on the list of available aircraft...
Something about the air.file being damaged????????
Can you enlighten me on this? Would very much love to try your aircraft out...

Glad you like the updates guys, mainly thanks to Ted for his skill and generosity though. Doing this really makes you appreciate just how much work goes into producing the whole thing from an idea to uploading it, and all for free!

Gaucho,
I've just checked and all is ok. Do you realise that the actual Fs9 aircraft file is inside the downloaded and unzipped file?

So after unzipping go into that file and there is the whole Fs9 aircraft file ready to be put straight into your Fs9 'Aircraft' file, along with the gauges to your Fs9 'Gauges' file.

Cheers

I am not sure I understand...

I extracted the file... directly into the fs9 Aircraft folder...
then on the tree... you see what appears to be a perfectly good aircraft... but the air file... is not ".air" but rather... it is a 5 kb file named "installer package"...
If I click on it, and try to open it... there comes out this notice... "unable to etc. air file is damaged, contact author for a valid air file...??????????

Downloaded and installed that aircraft this afternoon, and have noted it's a little skittish in the air. I was flying from western Britain and once in the air was bouncing around a bit, I thought it was turbulence, hit "Shift+Z" and found the outside wind was only 8KTS. That much wind shouldn't have an effect like lateral and longitudinal instability, should it? Gotta say, though, visually this is a nice-looking bird.

A brilliant addition to the hangar!

Thanks Shessi & Ted! The new skin looks fantastic, and the glass and props are really up to scratch - just needed to put a bit more reflection on the glass - personal taste!
Loving it, Cheers,

Stuart

If you have the Adobe 'Air' program installed on your computer, it will associate .air files with itself. Of course, it will not recognise a Flightsim .air file as being valid because it is completely different to an Adobe .air file.

I think that if you just load up the Manchester in FS, it will fly just fine!

Best,
Myles

Got it! thanks to all...

I did solve the problem... and it appears and flies fine...
I did some work on the textures to enhance the wheels, tires, and surface work as well as individual shines...
Still a WIP... Thanks to all again....:salute::wavey::icon29::icon29::icon29::icon29::icon29:

Still need a bit more help...

Could you kindly enlighten me? If at all possible, I'd like to detail the bomb bay doors... but somehow these areas
have escaped me...

Myles,
Thanks for that little 'nugget' of info, make you wonder how many other Fs9 problems are down to this sort of thing?

Gaucho,
As in the CFS2 forum, bomb bay door maping is the underside of the wing, no tex for the edges or the insides.

Stuart,
I understand what you say, the problem with Fs9 is that to get a really good shine you have to darken the alpha channel and so the glass will not be so transparent. If you look at Ted's original it is quite dark blue/grey and not hugely transparent but very reflective, I prefer glass to be more like it is i.e. transparent, but still with extra shine than the rest of the model (which it is). It's one of those Fs9 limited things. If you look at FSX or Cliffs of Dover (even CFS2 is better at it!) you will see just how glass can look......is that clear? ;)

Cheers Shessi
