Boulton Paul Sea Balliol for FS9

SOH-CM-2022
Hi folks -
I'm pleased to announce that we (Martin, Brian & yours-truly) have now published the Sea Balliol over in the files library at http://www.britsim.com/ :jump:
The aircraft model is painted as WL731 of 794 Fleet Air Arm squadron Culdrose Cornwall 1957 but is indicative of any of the F.A.A. Sea Balliols. It won't be suitable for repainting as a RAF Balliol but that soon won't be a problem because I'm now working on the necesary changes to the model to publish the RAF version.
B.T.W. the aircraft will fly in FSX with the usual provisos but is primarily for FS9 use.
Cheers :icon29:

I had to download merlin soundpack, because included sound.cfg relates sound to default c172 and for my personal taste i changed prop blur to one from Piglets Dromader. But thats just two small things, this plane is just pure joy to look at and to fly. Thanks Mr. Molyneaux and Team. :salute:

Balliol Sounds

Oops :icon_eek:
Thanks Kikas :salute: - I'd been speeding up the beta downloads by aliasing the sounds to the C172. Forgot to put back the proper config file from Gary Jones's sound pack.
All corrected, so Balliol version 1.2 has now replaced the original.
Cheers

Thanks! I've been looking forward to this one. It should be a fine mount for touring England in. It'll fit right in with my silver wings theme.

Can this be made a sticky please? With all the 600 hours plus put into this by Dave, Brian and myself and the beta team, would have thought that it would have been placed higher. There aren't many of us freeware developers out there now!!!

Not meaning to be rude in anyway, but think she needs a little bit more recognition. I'm afraid to say that the Balliol project was one of mine, as since a little lad have had a strong interest in the type (don't ask me why think it may have been an illustration in a book that fired my liking) and the two previous Balliols available for the sim (FS5.1 and FS2002/4) were both instigated by yours truly too.

Shame that no RAF Balliols (one surviving Royal Navy example at Cosford) survived the scrapman's axe as they would have made a superb warbird trainer today what with that Merlin upfront. Useless piece of info here is that the Balliol was the first airframe in the world to fly with a single turboprop (the Mamba).

Cheers,

Martin

Thanks Dave to you and your team for another magnificent and rare aircraft!
She looks beautiful and flies like a dream!
I'm especially impressed by the 3D cockpit! :applause:

As Martin says, she certainly deserves to be up there with the 'Stickies', and receive the recognition she rightfully deserves.

Thanks,

Stuart

Please find attached below a photo of the real Sea Balliol we used in this model build. Although built in 1954, she was placed into storage until May 1957 when she was issued to 796 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm at Culdrose in Cornwall. Later that year it visited Blackbushe whilst Farnborough was on and then came to grief back at Culdrose when she struck and landed ontop of a fence!!!

Repaired it then saw service with the Culdrose Station Flight until December 1959 when it was placed into storage and then sadly scrapped.

From the FSX forum - but felt compelled to acknowledge it here too, in light of how lovely (and clearly lovingly modelled) a plane this is:

Thanks Laz, for the HU.

Dave, Martin, et al - she's a delight. Sure, the standard prop-from-behind-view issue is there in my FSX - but that is but an insignificant spec in the grand scheme. This is absolutely a delightfully well done model. I truly enjoy naval carrier-trainers, and credit a number of hours in planes like the T-28, T-2, and Zephyr for developing some "ok" ability (within the constraints of what is possible in a sim) when it comes to coming aboard boats. For all those who moan theirs skills bringing aboard the fast jets have nought about which to complain - it is on these little gems that the basics are learned.

'Till now, there has been gaping hole in the RN FAA environment for their cold-war period naval trainer - and now that has been admirably filled. Thanks so very much for this little gem. She will be well flown in my sim.

A heart-felt thanks!

Daniel

Thank you very much for pointing this out to us. We're very pleased that people are enjoying the Sea Balliol and hope that this continues with the RAF and Export version that will follow in due course.

We don't get much feedback from our 'customers' so its always nice to hear people's comments.

Best wishes,

Martin

Could somebody recommend some old british carrier, or fleet air arm base scenery?

Hooky722 did some Fleet Air Arm bases, you can find them in library.
I'm not sure that they ever went to sea, and like the RN Hawker Hunters, spent their time on the training deck
on shore bases.

Pete

the Sea Balliol did see some deck landings and launches, like on HMS Triumph with the JOAC (Junior Officers Air Conversion course)....

yay! day-glo! now i have an excuse to wear the mirror finish Ray-Bans (Not that i need an excuse anyway) :jump:

This is really a very nice model of a rather obscure little airplane. Excellent 2D and VC, superb visuals and sounds, and a blast to fly around in. A bit challenging to land her, after spending some time in the bigger types. I'll definately be giving the Sea Balliol some serious flight time. Looking forward to seeing some repaints for this little gem too.

Thanks Dave and you team for the hard work and efforts. :guinness:
