finding out what type of ram i need?

hey all..short of taking the computer apart and looking at it..is there a way to tell what kind of ram my PC needs?

You can always Google your model with memory in the search This usually pulls up sites that show your memory type.

Google your comp

Make and model number and add specs at the end.

that will find the MNF site..take it from there

if its a Dell, enter the service tag and pull up specs..

That will tell you how much ram it can use , and what speed it can run

Another little utility you can try to see what you've got in your machine now is CPU Z.

Otherwise, as already suggested, google your computer model # (or motherboard model #) to see what type and the max capacity that the board can handle.

Another way to check if you can't find any info that way is to watch for the BIOS ID string (number) that should appear on your POST screen when you first boot up your computer. Take that # and google it to get started finding the specs on your machine.

On most brand-name rigs, this POST screen is hidden behind a splash screen with a logo (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc...) so you might need to enter your BIOS setup and turn off the boot splash screen option. If this is the case, usually the computer's model # will suffice to start your spec round up.

You can just post your make and model number and we will get you the info you need and provide a link to what mem you need to purchase...

It will depend on the amount that your MoBo will run as to how to purchase...what type kit...1X1 2X2 etc...
