Fixes for the Shupe/Carroll FSX native Beech 18

@Bjoern - outstanding work !! Thank you for your efforts man - and of course Milton too - thank you

Great

Next question-->what gauge is that Compass/HSI ?

Thanks

Roland

It's a TWiD (Track, Wind, Drift) gauge by Glenn Copeland that I picked up at FlightSim. Use wind drift as the search term there and it's about the middle of the page along with a digital version by him. The one in the screenshot has had the main bitmap redone in greyscale. It's "colorful" otherwise. Its one of those love it or hate it things. Just set your flightplan course on it and follow the pointers.

I love it when flying DR/RDF. The main problem is it doesn't deal with the curvature of the earth well and on very long distance flights, you can end up way off course. (one of the Flight 19 guys was using it from Dakar to Natal and ended up heading for Antarctica) Normal cross country flights (most of what I do) I set it and the ADF radio. I follow the TWiD until I pick up the NDB and use that to home on into the airfield.

The Navigator's Info note on the panel came from Glenn Duncan's C-87 (also at FlightSim). Also a very handy navigational aid. Planes that I have it in with the TWiD, I've quit using the GPS.

My work only accounts for 10% of the model, at best. 70% belong to Milton and team and 20% to David for the conversion.

Ahh..thank you for the correction. I'm usually only half right half the time, so this is an improvement for me

Bjoern,

Don't under-estimate your contributions to the community. We appreciate the work David and you have done for this aircraft injecting new life and pleasures for the community for this ole gal. Thank you so much. :applause:

I'll second that!

On another note, I was asked in a PM about that wood grain panel. My plans at the moment are to include it some of my paints as "lagniappe". Lagiappe is Cajun for a little something extra tosssed into the deal. One of the things about Milton's work that I have always enjoyed is his extras.

I'm also experimenting with a "engine turned aluminum" vc panel in the Lodestar which if I can get it done to my satisfaction would find it's way to the Beech. And some different woods. I've got that portover cargo amphib also in the shop getting scruffed up some more for an upcoming Flight 19 float trip and I'm looking at driftwood or old barn wood for it. Any vc panel textures I do for it will also work on the FSX native version.

Since I got a bit of PM spam regarding the black rear window:

This is entirely intentional on Dave's or Milton's part to cover up the crapper. The black texture is shared by other parts such as the gearbays though, so be wary of repainting.
Since the cargo model requires the rear cabin anyway, the windows will eventually "work" as intended, with a curtain unglamorously covering up unfortunate occupants of the lavatory in the civilian version.

I've meanwhile almost finished the 3ds Max import of the exterior model. Next up would be the interior before I can finally start merging the already prepared cargo elements into the model. Talk about taking the long road. :dizzy:

Don't mention it. :)

...snipped ...

On the bright side, the cargo version will match the one from Milton's original release, i.e. full sized boxes and the additional cargo door.

Maybe I'll add the amphibian variation for good measure.

This is an exciting development because there are so many (well over 100 liveries) for the original version. Maybe they will work.

One of my all time favorite liveries for the D18S was by Urs Burkhardt (who did the original Spartan textures and paint kit).

It will be great to have this available for the FSX native cargo version although it works great on the port over version in FSX.

I'd love to have cargo amphibian as that's the one that I've flown the most (MacRobertson London to Melbourne and an around the world flight). That iivery that Milton posted the pics of is a classic. I've been flying it with my "Nitro Express" Merc Air paint for years. That one's in the corner of the shop now for additional "scruffiness".

Remember, cargo doesn't get on your nerves by screaming in terrror.

To make it clear, I just cut out the cargo door from Dave's model and therefor old liveries can not be used!!

Regarding the amphibian, we'll see.

What a great aircraft. I saw "Magic by Moonlight" at Oshkosh this last year.

Tom, that's outstanding. I saw it at an airshow a couple of years ago and was really surprised at what he could in it.

jmbiii, she isn't available yet. I have spent the last 10 days finding the logos of all the sponsors. Just about there as far as the sponsors. Next I will be refining the outer skin. She should be available here this week some time. Thanks for the interest.

While we're all waiting on Tom's Beech 18 paint, here's some I just uploaded to while away the time....
