Fs9 aircraft in P3Dv4 with a FSX VC

My Razbam A-4C works perfectly in FSX. It will also appear (exterior and interior) in P3Dv4. The animations need to be modified and there are no gauges in the VC, but the basic model appears with textures.

My problem appears when I try to substitute a different aircraft VC. I have previously done this successfully with FSX aircraft, and I am using the same procedure - but in this case I see neither the exterior or interior appear in P3Dv4 after telling it to use the different VC. The VC (and it's original aircraft) were designed for FSX, and therefore work fine there.

Has anyone had success adding a different VC to a Fs9 aircraft and have it work in P3Dv4? If so, will you please share your procedure with me.

Best to you all,

Bill

FS9 aircraft rely on one MDL file that encompasses the VC and exterior. FSX and P3D rely on separate MDL files for the VC and the exterior. As a result, adding a VC to an FS9 aircraft is not possible. It may be possible to do if you convert the FS9 model to FSX/P3D format using ModelConverterX, but I haven’t extensively researched this possibility.

A model will not be visible in P3Dv4 if it doesn't have a completely separate model for its interior (VC).

I have been able to use ModelConverterX to recompile models (and their VC's) for P3Dv4....as well as have some use a VC model from another aircraft.

It's not rocket surgery.....if I can do it, anyone can.

Sorry, but that's not correct. It will work just fine without a VC model, but obviously you won't see anything in the VC view.

There are those who would contend, that if you don't see anything in the VC view, its not working fine.

Lol, well that's true, but the lack of a VC model won't stop P3d from seeing the aircraft as usable.

Do some research on the subject and make sure you have the required tools configured properly, as I did, and yes, anyone can do it....even you, Ed :untroubled:

The basic procedure I follow is this:

1. Open the model in MCX (when the condition variable window pops up, leave "gen_model" set at 2 for the exterior model or 1 for the interior model).

2. Open up Animation editor and reassign the animation types to the ones in your updated modeldef.xml file. If there is a custom animation that you can re-assign, you can "fix" it....i.e. remove it.

3. Recompile the model for FSX or P3d.

By the way, I didn't say it was easy or that that every model comes out perfectly the way you want it......but I have had some success with it.

So far I have gotten an AH-1S and IL-28 to work properly in P3Dv4.
I also converted an L-19, O-2, and MiG-19, but I still have to correct some reversed animations.

. . . . .indeed. If that is the case, then please. . .share your technique so that "anyone can do it".

I'm sorry, I should have written that better. What I meant to say was that the models won't be visible in the aircraft selection preview window.

When animation tags are done, remember to set visibilty tags for parts. Especially for props, fans, rotors ,and wheels. Which require more than one instance to show animations correctly.

Everyone notes that Henks "modeldef.xml" is a must, but I haven't seen where anyone has noted where you get it. I did a specific search for his name in the SOH Library and it's not there. . .soooo, where is it?

Bill, if i were you i'd forget about using FS9 aircraft models in P3Dv4 all together. Nothing but headaches.. ;-)

Did you know that the Virtavia native FSX Skyhawk is at Steam for only 12.99 Euro ? You might wanna check out how that works in P3Dv4 ?

cheers,
jan

Hi, I doubt whether that steam DLC will work in P3Dv4 as most (if not all) Steam DLC is encripted. But you are free to try it.
On the other hand most Virtavia models are on sale at 50% of the original price for more than a year now at some shops.

Regards,

Jan

Hi Jan,

I already have the Virtavia A-4E/F. Yes, I should abandon the Razbam A-4C for P3Dv4 - but, being an retired Naval Aviator, I really like the short nosed 'scooter" and it works really well in FSX. I have been accused of being stubborn - more than once (smile).

Good to hear from you,

Bill

Forget about steam, I got the virtavia A4 from pcaviatot on there perpetual 50% off sale some time ago, you get authentic liveries and it works in both FSX and P3D v4 great!
