My nephew wants to buy/build a new gaming system. The system he picked out of the gaming magazine has an Intel i7-980X processor. The list price on that processor is right at $1200. I can swap in the i7-980 processor for under $600. The 980X has unlocked multipliers and a 6.4 GT/s front side bus while the 980 has locked multipliers and a 4.8 GT/s front side bus. Both processors are 6 core, 3.33Ghz processors. Would my nephew even notice a difference between the two processors? Would he lose any gaming power using the 980 versus the 980X?
The system he picked out of a gaming mag is right at $2500, i7-980X 3.33Ghz processor, ASUS MOBO, 12gig DDR3 1330 RAM, 40gig SSD drive, 2 Tb SATA drive, 8X Blue Ray drive, 1gig Nvidia GTX470 vid card, 800 watt power supply. I can build a system with a system with the i7-980 3.33Ghz procesor, 12Gig DDR3 1600 RAM, 60Gig SSD, 2 1Tb SATA drives, 800 Watt SLI ready PSU, 1Gig GTX 470 vid card, 12X Blue Ray multi-Drive (with 3D play) a better MSI MOBO and a better case for around $700 cheaper.
