Monday Afternoon Carrier Ops

Hopped in my favorite bomber and took off from the USS Lexington (CV-2) in the North Sea heading southish towards the English Channel until I spotted another carrier down below.....

Decided to drop down and see what was going on and it was the Saratoga (CV-3), so I got into the pattern and dropped in for a cup of coffee and a donut in the Chief's Mess. A lot of turbulence in the air over the Channel today which made landing a bit problematic, but after a go around, I managed to catch a wire on the 2nd try....

Time to move on, so I headed back north to Merc Air's "secret HQ". Passed by one of the sea forts while on the way. There was a CVL at anchor nearby, so I figured I'd drop in there and bum another coffee and donut. And just to show that not all of my carrier landings are perfect, I nearly buggered this one up. Nothing a little firefighting foam and some new paint can't fix up.

Pics 1 & 2 got swapped around somehow.

Carrier Ops

Willy,

Nice shots. I love your choice of the Dauntless. Just got 'a love that old Donationware SBD. Along with its stablemates, the Wildcat and the Devastator, it's got to be one of my favorite carrier planes from WWII .

Thanks Jagd and Matt! :ernae:

I've always figured the SBD has been very under rated in relation to what it did in the war.

Another favorite of mine for FS carrier ops is the Aeroplane Heaven Seafire III. One you figure out how to aim it around that nose at the flight deck, it's not too bad to land.

I've been spending the afternoon, putting the MAAM CVL in a bunch more locations around the globe. You can't have too many flight decks :icon_lol:
