New Paint for and Old Warrier

So far so good. What squadrons did you have in mind? Kind regards, Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy. Still gathering data but I'll include any USN unit that flew the TRAM in the standard gray over white scheme, late 60s thru early 80s.

Still a lot to do to get the panel lines revised the way i want them. Them I'll start looking at units.

Simply stunning. You are going to be rather busy then. If you need a tester for FS, let me know. Best regards, Jeremy

Hey AM202, beautiful profile shot. Don't have that one but will definately be useful.

Found a few other things that needed attention that I'm working on but it shouldn't be long before markings are applied. Been working in the cockpit, new duds for the crew, stickers for the seats, seat stab chutes, and a little plumbing under the canopy!

Wow, those previews look great! I think you're first post is correct, the tricky mapping put off a lot of would be painters, myself included. Looking forward to adding these to my "Grumman repaints by Duckie" collection!

Thank you Cthulhu. :salute: I think I'm now over the hump with the texture mapping and I believe it will be worth the trouble, for me anyway.

This model is a good flyer but unforgiving (to me again!) trapping aboard a carrier. Great fun practicing though, and very satisfying when you do get aboard.

The A-6 has been a favorite of mine for a long time. I've got both the ALPHA and Razbam versions. Looking forward to your skins. Years ago I was lucky enough to work with a retired A-6 pilot. He could have written "Flight of the Intruder" if Stephan Coonts hadn't beaten him to it. Being the humble type we had to pry stories out of him. I can't think of much that would have been scarier than flying alone at night over North Vietnam.

Yep. Me too.

Looking forward to your skins.

Thank you.

Awesome! There are heroes out there among us. I was privileged to know a gentleman for almost 15 years before I was informed he served aboard USS Wasp, CV7! I only asked once about his experience. He told me that he became a crew member in summer of 1942 in San Diego. He was a gunners mate who was a loader on one of the forward quad 1” guns. He was aboard in the Southwest Pacific when she was torpedoed by the I-19. He served the last year of the war aboard USS Wasp, CV-18! I could tell it was tough for him to talk about so I never asked again. He passed away three years ago.

I had the great pleasure to go flying with him once in his Grumman AA-1C Lynx. The flight itself was uneventful, just some bug-smashing around the local area. The landing is the part I'll never forget. I had a few hours of instruction and had flown my share of approaches. He showed me his "carrier approach". As we came abeam of the runway threshold he entered a tight descending turn while dropping like a runaway elevator. When he rolled wings level we were over the numbers about five feet above the runway. Wow! You could tell he knew a thing or two about flying.

Holy crap! :icon_eek: I would've sat a little higher in my seat after a flight like that!! Great job Duckie!! Looking forward to these!!! Best regards, Jeremy

It would have taken a long time (days, maybe even weeks!) for my grin to have vanished after an experience like that!

Thanks Jeremy. Still pickin nits with this mapping!

will this work on the fSX version also? If so....I may now have to buy this jet. Outstanding paint work Duckie! A-6 was always a fav of ine. I had always felt that the RAZBAM model externally was a bit more accurate aas an important intake is missing from the starboard wing root.....but at this point......I'm liking the VC and the Alphasim bird better.

Thanks very much skyhawka4m. I'm not sure if it will work in X or not as I don't have it and don't know what it would take to convert.

The cockpit / forward compartment air conditioning intake is missing as you say, as well as some other inaccuracies but none are show stoppers (IMHO). I have both and debated which one I preferred. After flying both for a while I decided on this one. Really like the way it flys and, as you noted, the VC.

:salute:

FINALLY finished the "break-in" process! That texture mapping threw me more loops than Phil Nekro had nuckle balls! But, I finally found all the nooks and crannies where the little pieces were hiding and got the weathering done. Now for the generic markings for the period and then the unit markings. Hopefully no more "... working on mysteries without any clues" from the mappings!

Anyway, here are few update shots for now.
