Scenery for RAF West Malling by Ian Elliot 6/4/13

You will need these objects-----

"classic_libraries_v2.zip" by Wolfgang Gersch, sorry about the large download size
for these but there's a lot of really good objects i like using.

There are no suitable Ai for West Malling so ive made up a traffic-file using Ito's
Javalin, look for "jave771.zip" by Kazunori Ito. ive only used five aircraft with one
performing touch ang go's, so there should'nt be to much of a hit on frames.

ive also included a basic repaint to represent aircraft of 85sq, flying Javerlins from
West Malling in 1959, add the texture.85sq folder to your Gloster Javalin and add the below cfg entrie--

[fltsim.xx]
title=Gloster Javelin 85sq
sim=Javelin
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=85sq
kb_checklists=
ui_manufacturer=Gloster
ui_type=Javelin FAW.9
ui_variation=RAF 85sq West Malling
description=This is a first delta wing weather resistant fighter of a British air force. \nIt is an aircraft in which a big leap of the aircraft technology after World War II was reflected. \n\nby Kazunori Ito\n

Im not a repainter and this is very much a quick and dirty job to get the right aircraft flying in my
scenery, as per the wish's of Mr Ito, ive kept the textures in Extended 256 colors, but i see no problem in
openning them up with DXTbmp and changing them to DXT1(no alpha) for better performance

ive also included my Post war era RAF ground vehicle's for use in EZ-Scenery, you may already have them installed, available to download from Simout-House library,but if not, install these,
place scenery contents into Addon-scenery/scenery folder and texture bmps into
Addon-scenery/texture folder. if you want to use them yourself in EZ or other object
placement tools, read the read-me for important scale info.

Ive chosen to represent West Malling as it looked just before the end of operational flying by the RAF in 1969, flying carried on for some years as a home for air training corp gliders and was the home of the Great Warbirds flying display,
many of which i attended before the airfield was given over to redevelopment as a housing estate in 1991,some buildings
remain, most notably, the control Tower,in the middle of the estate. apparently rumor'd to become a Costa coffe shop.

One intresting use for the airfield was as a location for the Beatles 1967 Magical Mystery Tour movie, making good use of
the runway and dispersl areas and studio shots film'd in the large hanger behing the control tower, as im a bit of a Beatles fan, ive included the fab four on the airfield, but there well hidden and will take some finding, when you do find them, and you want to remove those "b****y hippies, just remove the EZ-B.bgl from your WestMalling/scenery folder :)

West Malling...... was the home of the Great Warbirds flying display,

And I worked at Great Warbirds Airshows... here's a few piccies from my photobucket album

And also featured in the opening episode of 'Piece of Cake'; where the RAF er, graffiti in the Hangar offices was shown, when the
central characters are revisiting the derelict aerodrome in their later years.

Great photos Pete. Thanks for posting those.

I just picked up Ito's Javelin so I should be flying my own air show over West Malling later today. I'll have to plug in something from the Beatles into the com system while I barrel roll over the airfield.
