slew goes nuts

Why when I try and slew some planes to a parking area(most of the smaller airports don't have a parking area listed in the airport list), does the plane sometimes goes at warp speed over the countyside?
I've tried shuting the engine down, making sure the controls are centered (I like to start from a cold dark cockpit in a parking area and taxi to the active ,instead of sitting at the runway ready to go).
Has anyone else had this happen?Some if not most planes slew nicely but others go nuts. Thanks

IIRC there's a 'slew rate' in the fs9.cfg file somewhere..(Motormouse <----goes rummaging)......aha....here it is....
Code:
[SLEW]
MaxLateralRate=40000.000000  [COLOR=red]<---Change these numbers,smaller = slower slew[/COLOR]
MaxVerticalRate=1000.000000
MaxPitchRate=360.000000
MaxBankRate=360.000000
MaxHeadingRate=360.000000

Hi,

Recalibrate your joystick in Windows and then try running FS.

Ok, I'm confused. (which seems to be happening more and more nowadays :costumes:) Are you talking about what can sometimes happen after you slew an aircraft to a parking spot. Ie the aircraft goes racing off at high speed after you place the aircraft on the ground?

I don't have my sim on this computer so I can't check , but if I remember there is a function to use/not use the joystick in Slew.

As most joysticks (even when calibrated) take very little to sense input all it takes is a tiny nudge, imbalance, or left-over "off-center" to start a slew motion the moment the slew mode is engaged.

Having had more than a few speed-slews over the years I also check to make sure the num lock key is set properly before going to slew.
(BTW, if you fly in online I'd suggest remapping the slew key to something like CTRL+Y so you don't go slewy while typing in Chatbox)

A worn joystick will do that. Just enlarge the axis null zones a bit and it will be fine.

for Texas etc.

As far as when the aircraft goes nuts ,it's as soon as I hit "Y" to start slewing.The aircraft is mostly at the end of the active runway and it's before I move it in any other way.
As far a diabeling the joystick ,Athough I never touch the stick,when slewing,(just use the arrow keys) it might be worth a try ,but still I wonder why not all aircraft behave this way.Thanks to all who took the time to reply.

Try using 'CTRL + A' to ensure that your aircraft is settled on the ground before coming out of slew mode. If there is a slight difference in ground altitude between where you start and where you finish, the machine will rush off at high speed and, probably, crash when you come out of Slew.

Best,
Myles

When I go into Slew mode I always use the Joystick for left, right, forward and back. I have no trouble. They move into postition fine. What I do have to watch out for is terrain changes. If I am not on the ground firmly when I exit slew mode the aircraft launches off and into the air. I only use the key commands for rotate forward, backward, side to side and up/down.

I removed all key commands for foward and reverse movement as well as right and left. I could not control it the plane would be miles from the airport before I knew it.

Thanks guys I'll give all that a try but like I said the plane is firmly on the runway and it happens as soon as I hit "Y".Guess I'll live with it but the F1 thing might work after I get the plane stopped and hit "Y" again.
Other wise I'll live with it.Thanks to all

Mine does that ALL the time also. :banghead: I does have to do with your joystick being worn and not centered when you go to slew. If you disable your joystick first you should be ok.

What sort of joystick do you have? I get that exact problem after cleaning my desk & flying gear. The CH Pro stick has 4 little wheels on the top of the base. They have to be recentred after being moved during cleaning or you get warp speed slew!

The springs and pivot joints are worn allowing the stick to activate one or more contacts with your hands off. It happens in flight mode too, you just don't notice such a small movement in aileron or elevator. When you hit "Y" for slew the joystick error will randomly send the plane zipping across the plain, or nothing may happen if the stick was perfectly centered. If you increase the null zones to a point beyond the joystick error the problem will end. :wavey:

Well strangely I also have all CH controls and my joystick is rather old, so you may be on to something here.Next time I fly I'll either disable the joystick or increase the null zone. Thanks for the suggestions.
