Black Fuselage Colored Wings

It is supposed to be textures for the FSX model. I downloaded one for FS9 and one for FSX for the Tom A330-300.
I will try to switch them and see if they are mislabeled.
 
FSX will use the DXT3 and 32 bit bmp textures that FS9 did. I've forgotten to convert from regular 24bit bmp textures before and got the same results.
 
It looks like a missing texture or a texture which doesn't load (As Willy already mentioned). Check the file names. Often the FSX version has a "_t" added, which the FS9 doesn't have.

Do you have both BMP and DDS format textures for the fuselage in the same folder?
I've seen that happen (done that while texturing) and the result is what you showed at the top of the thread.

Did you find a fix for your not having the Direct X 10 box in FSX Gold?
Probably not much to be gained in researching textures if the simulator
is broken.
 
Are these textures for the same model? I have the TFS A330 as AI in FS9 and the texture folders only have 2 textures as in the first screenshot.. a day and night texture for each paint. Unless the FSX TFS A330 is mapped differently, there should only be 2 textures in each texture folder. As all the model textures are on one map (1 each for day and night) no fallback should be necessary as far as I can see so there isn't a need for a texture.cfg.

EDIT: I've just found and downloaded a texture for the FSX TFS A330 and it only has 2 textures.. same as the FS9 model. Unless I'm missing something here, I think you're trying to put a paint from one model onto a different model.

The readme file on one of the add-on textures said to copy and past the *c files from the original texture folder into the add-on texture folders. So I did so.

I am not a texture guy.

I don't know the first thing about building textures for aircraft in our hobby here. I don't know the difference between DXT 1 and 21 if they go that high.
I don't know about channels or LOD other than LOD are easier on FPS.

What I do know is that several of my aircraft in FSX are just fine with all kinds of add-on textures which appear just fine on all kinds of aircraft.

I have a plethora of aircraft with several skins which all show both in preview and in the sim.
If a plane is invisible in the preview, it is black in the sim.

I guess I will go through all of my aircraft and delete all those which are invisible in preview.

Looks to me to be two different aircraft models you all are mentioning. "Tom" and "TFS". One is AI and one UI.
I've not run across a flyable made by "Tom" though.
It looks to me like the texture "Main" is misspelled or not labeled correctly, therefore not showing up. It should be "main.dds"

EDIT: from Flightsim description of file :

FSX Edelweiss Air Airbus A330-300. Texture only package for use with Thomas Ruth's A330-300 model (TOMA333B-1.ZIP) in Edelweiss Air livery, registration HB-JHQ. Model requires SP1, SP2, or the Acceleration expansion pack in order to be displayed correctly. By Ryan Gabuyo.
 
That's exactly what I was saying mate. The two textures in the first shot point to the TFS A330 and the second set of textures are for Tom Ruth's model. I've no idea if Tom made the TFS model or if TFS make them 'in house' but the TFS paints should work fine on the TFS model. Me thinks DD73 has got a tad confused.. we've all done it at some point;)

if its a case of using another models textures on another model, theres your problem, jim and Dave have nailed it

either way

it has nothing to do with your aircraft.cfg, if you have made an error in the paint entry ie sim= or model= or texture= is messed up the selected paint wont show up at all in the aircraft selection list, and if its a data in the entry is incorrect all aircraft paints after that paint will fail to show as well

but if you have copied a normal entry and then just changed the texture= title= ui= data while using another model paint then you can run into this problem

regardless the problem is within the texture folder and its loading, as mentioned if its a share textured, the texture.cfg maybe in correct

or the texture format is in correct, willy's post is partly incorrect fsx dds dxt 1 thru to 5 DDS DXT5 the preferred, or extended bitmap formats preferably in the 32bit format

can you please zip up that texture folder and upload along with the texture.cfg, in addition can you add a default texture folder that comes with the model

I can compare the 2 folders and that is the quickest way to to identify and correct the fault using the few developers mapping programs Ive got installed

it could be something as simple as the fus textures for that livery are named incorrectly or saved in another format the model doesnt accept

either its a every easy fix if you know what to look for,
