If you plan or want to try Window 7 64/32 bit, they are opening up there servers for about a month. This RC will be the last release before they release the final product. I have enjoyed playing with Window 7 64 and 32 bit OS. It is way more stable and user friendly that Vista and is purty too.BTW ... it is 3.05 gigs and there servers are overloaded so it will take a few hours to download... go here>> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx

Already got it, installed the x64 version in dual boot with XP x86 and working like a charm! I must confess I'm really impressed! Now off to check if all of the other applications run as smooth as Se7en!:ernae:

Downloading now and saving to a DVD for later on. Gotta get me a 1TB HDD before I install it..... maybe even a couple of em. :mixedsmi:

I'm keepin my toes outta the water till someone says its safe to go swimming!! :engel016:

Ted, I have been using this as my main OS since day one without one problem. This OS will replace Windows XP by far and put Vista on the back burner...Mike

Ok, now that I have it, what do you use to open it seeing it's an ISO file? I've never tried to open and run one of those.... ever.

Download a program called IMGBurn, it will allow you to burn it to a DVD.

After that, you'll shut down your computer and restart and it should walk you through installation. That is if you want to install over your current windows. If you want to set up a dual boot so you can try 7 out, you'll have to set up a partition first, then setup something called GRUB to let you chose whichever OS you want to run when you turn the computer on.

Edit:

Oh yeah, and backup all your important data before you try to install it. It probably isn't an upgrade, it will probably delete everything when you install it unless you are doing a dual boot.

All you have to do is burn the iso image on a DVD, you could do it with Nero, Alcohol 120% or a nice freebie called Ashampoo (which also works flawlessy in W7).

Mind you, not copying the iso over a simple data compilation, you should see the option on your burning software along the lines of "burn image to disk" or something similar. :mixedsmi:

Thanks JS and Luca.....

Js, I'm just going to burn it to a DVD disc for now.... no install.

Dumb question. Can I install over Vista without having format? I want to keep FS intact. Will FS run after I install Windows 7? Other issue. I would be going for Vista 32 to Win 7 64

i was wondering if i could install on a slave drive
or i have a bunch of parts to put together
H

As far as I know you can update Vista to Windows 7 without the need to format. There's a chance FS may remain intact and all the registry lines get ported over. Though I have to admit it's not something I would do.

That is what I am afraid of. I will probably just wait until its full release and then buy, by then I should be ready for a format.

looks like i have to have a fresh pc
i think ill use me old one
and put it together

In the instructions it says to install on a clean HD. This is the full version of Windows 7 and not a upgrade. For as little as hard drives are in this day and time everybody should have a spare one in there computer for testing and storing files and leave your main OS on your main HD. The ones who keep knocking down MS, I find it hard to believe that any company would let the customer test a OS until 2010 for free. Vista as far as I am concerned was the second generation of the OS ME. For the ones who want to try Windows 7 you will see it is very stable and user friendly and also works well with games. It also has a nice interface. :ernae:
