Tweaked, re-tweaked, and over-tweaked ring settings ETO screenies

A few of us have been tweaking the holy bejeezus out of the insane rings settings, trying to see how good we can make it look, how far out we can make it look that good, and where the point of no stutter lies for some of the newer and higher end graphics cards and gaming rigs being used now. Check out the "insane rigs tweak, where is this" thread to be delighted and confused by the ever changing cascade of texture and scenery budget settings we have been playing around with. Here is a link to my ETO Screenies album at photobucket, they reduced my 5Mb BMP files to 1Mb when they uploaded them, but hopefully they still give a good representation of the results of all that tweaking...... http://s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb201/rikwatts/ETO%20Screenies/

And, hopefully, they are actually an improvement over the stock settings....I've made so many changes in the last week or so I can't remember what the settings I tried yesterday looked like anymore....:mixedsmi:
 
Hi rouge34rtw,

Do you have a copy of the freeware version of OFF? There were some "insane" settings in that setup. If you searched around in your OFF files, you would probably find those settings as a reference, a point of comparison.

Rouge, it looks like you don't have AntiAliasing on in those Spifire cockpit shots.

also, why do you have different looking clouds than I do? Are you using an add-on cloud package?

agree with grizz , i get those clouds , eto rocks , tweaks work imho, im using crows input and some of rouges ....and add on effects youve got

rocket sim ,.

OMG!!!! My jaw is bouncing off the floor......you seriously don't have ETO yet?? DUDE.....ETO is the best thing to happen to airwarfare since the Warthog grew around that beautiful 30mm war hammer.......!!!!

So....we haven't been tweaking the same application all this time....no wonder it felt like we have been chasing our own tails...lol:173go1:

I bet we start seeing eye to eye on settings once you have it...

Answers....

I have nHancer dialing my GPU Driver into 16xQ AA, applied as defined by the in game AA settings, which is set to 8x in the config utility. I also have Supersampling checked for the transparancy AA.

When you do get ETO going, in the config utility>texture info page (page 3) I have the cloud scale backed off to 6, but on the graphics quality settings, my cloud slider remains at 5....so that I use the level 5 texture and scenery budgets since they are the only ones I am tweaking. I loved the way the clouds looked with the cloud scale at 10 (where it is set when you set cloud quality slider to 5), but I picked up 10 to 20 FPS overall at the higher end rings we have been using.....and that 10 to 20 can make a huge difference if you are pulling down into the twenties...difference between a video and a slide show.

I am using screen res 1680x1050x32 on a single Samsung 215TW 21.5" widescreen LCD.

And finally... I do not have OFF yet...or MAW either. I have been completely buried in ETO, PTO, and Korean Skies....when I feel I have them mastered, I will add more.....(can you say "long damn time from today"???

Thank you from the bottom of my over G'd heart to all those who have contributed to the expansions, and all the wonderful addons available....by the way, those wonderful addons are why you never find me on your six in the hosted games....I have so many extras and addons I am not just excluded from joining the game, I am exiled to the arctic regions to serve my tour........

DUDE ....... you don't have MAW yet??!!? Or OFF???!!?? etc etc. Well, no offence to the ETO wizards, but the aircraft in MAW are easily a match for ETO (same modellers & painters...) and from what I've seen of OFF P3 its scenery is just as good.

These three expansions are simply magnificent examples of the best modelling available for CFS3, period. 'Nuff said. Go forth and tweak!

I dont Have ETO either...I have Korean Skies,OFF,PTO and MAW...Have a question....How big is this D/L? The link i looked at had a rather small D/L...around 1.5 MB or somewhere around that size.I didn't think that could possibly be it so I didnt D/L it.

:kilroy:Ceechow, the Aussiex site allows you to download a download manager for each part of ETO, both 1.0 and 1.20.

You download the download managers, unzip them, and then run them. One at a time, of course.

Yes, CFS3 ETO Expansion 1.0 is very big, about 1.2 GB. It will take some time to download, depending upon your connection. I highly recommend that you do nothing else with your computer while downloading. Just take your time and let it do its thing. Most seem to get it in about an hour (+/-).

CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20 is a bit smaller, at about 945 MB. Same deal as 1.0 above.

For the record, the ETO FirePower USAAF HeavyBombers2 is only about 142 MB and uses no download manager. It's a more direct link.

seems 2 threads on this topic cna we strip her down to one thread and crow ....pls seek out rouges copy and paste his andd see i did and no suttering at all ,,, i copied his both in my asset folder ....i can meial you if you want them i saved em as well , i will say look good and bottomline - no suttering on my rig with em

Holy deer mouse s**t sir.....what kind of computer do you have Grizzly? I feel for ya brother I really do. I am on 8Mb Comcast Broadband, and I bring both of those files down simultaneously in 3 to 5 minutes...done ready to click go.exe........Are you on a highspeed ISP or dial-up? I have some helpful tips case dependent...
