Aero L-39 Albatros

'crazy plane' is the technical term i believe, takes co ordination on everything rudder, pitch, roll, thrust, the latter being a tricky one in the albatross with its spool up time, but can be done

have seen the crazy flight with MB339 plane flown by Frecce Tricolori Solo pilot before :)
wasn't aware before that vid that Albatross is capable flying this manouver

Yes, it's a tough one. I haven't quite mastered it yet either, a good challenge, and tricky to maintain the proper speed with. Such a narrow band between stalling under load and overspeed bringing up the flaps on you. :)

Smoothie, that paint in your avatar is gorgeous, very sexy!

Tom, thanks very much. :)

great plane Lotus, I just love the little details like the rumbling on the runway! Great!!!
I hope however in a further update:
- oxygen masks
- somehow droppable ordnance

Joe sent me a copy and I got to fly a couple skins today for a short while.

One is the private 39 with camo and the red stars. And of course, our own "Pipsqueak". This 39 is simply beautiful to fly.... computer that is. You did a fantastic job Mike.

I'd say Joe will be proud.

Lotus, here s roll-out after landing shot of my blank template racer, as i said if anyone wants colours changed and bits added let me know and i'll gladly do it for them... oh and sorry about the image quality, my sim has it's off moments (not hard to accomplish given i'm still on a 5/6 year old Dell Dimension 5100 PC)

I love the aux wind turbine generator that pops out when the engine quits! :medals:

I haven't managed to catch an airliner yet, is the L39 really that much of a snail? Knowing you put in so much realism it must be unless I'm being an idiot? The Mach only goes above 0.5 in a dive for me, I have admiration for the display teams that flew/fly this aircraft must have nerves of steel!! :ernae:

Hey I call that a good landing attempt!!!

remember the engines thrust is low, and takes a while to spool up, why Mike mentions in his tutorial vids that after take off keep in ground effect and clean the configuration up and gently climb, otherwise you will bleed speed massively and end up in a stall and from a post take-off and under 3000ft that could be classed as a small problem, and try not to overheat the engine, once established cut back on the power to 102% or so instead of 104% (I think thats right, Mike back me up here buddy :icon_lol:) catching airliners can be done, as can keeping in formation with an EH101 or C208 (don't ask i got distracted by them). mach 0.5 in a dive at what altitude ;) remember if you're low stick to KPH if you go from high to low use the mach format, but even from 20,000ft in a dive you should accelerate nicely. now to sound like groundcrew "no overstressing, or overspeeding the airframe, generally things come loose...."

i call that 'Crazy plane' but i know a few guys who end up doing that and asking "what is that your ritual approach dance? i've heard of the law of averages but not choosing left or right doesn't mean you'll get centreline"

Here's the owner and pilot of "Pipsqueak" here in KILG.... Joe Gano. And who I help ground crew for. Joe will be flying "Pip" in the Reno Air Races this year. "Pip" is a two time Jet Class winner at Reno for 2005 and 2006. She would have a win last year but came in second.

Hi Smoothie,

That is precisely what I was doing, I just never realised quite how much it is underpowered! I guess I'm too used to blasting about in my SR-71 to be used to flying a bit slower. I think Mike's creation will keep me out of my normal steed for a while to come!! Great job all round, quite possibly the best plane, best manual, best realism ever in FS!!

I can see that no detail has been spared attention! I certainly have a lot to learn! :ernae:

One thing Mike didn't include is the auto pilot recovery. The button on the stick, and looks like a hatswitch to engage it. If the pilot starts to blackout he hits that button and the a/c will right it's self and fly level. Once the pilot comes too again he can shut it off. It's meant to save yer bacon. ;)

Correct me if wrong, but does FSX support joystick switches? I seem to recall not.

Wily, I'm not sure about that. I don't see why not tho. Modders for FSX have found a way to fire machineguns, cannon, and rockets. So if not now, then maybe someday joystick switches will be workable.

my only upgrade was to maximise the RAM and add a Soundblaster X-fi, no PSU, MOBO,Graphics card changes... nothing pretty much factory spec :icon_lol:
