Testers needed: Carrier Tracks Volume 1

dswo

Charter Member 2011
The files included here place Javier's Nimitz and Eisenhower as moving boat traffic in five locations: Oahu, Pensacola, Key West, San Diego, and Whidbey Island. Except for Oahu, the chief factor in choosing sites was freeware add-on scenery by Jim Dhaenens and Jim Cook. More details in the readme.

When everything's ship-shape, I'll upload these tracks to one of the freeware libraries (with the Google Earth screenshots as part of the archive). First, though, I need some testers. Try it, and if you find something that seems not to work right, drop me a note here. If you're testing the flight situations, it would help if you have Dino's T-45 Goshawk, which is used for the San Diego and Pensacola situations. But you should be able to switch planes once the flight is loaded.

If anyone is using my earlier Oahu track, this will overwrite it. (Only difference: about few hundred yards, and the new track omits the Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer that was trailing the Nimitz. No reason to upgrade/overwrite, but the saved flight won't work with the old track.)

OK i will try these as i love Jim's add ons a lot and San Diego is one of my home ports. thanks for doing this....i am amazed at the Nimitz project and this is a great way to check it out in action.

I'll try anything that puts a carrier around Key West. Thank you dswo. If you get a chance could i please req a carrier around MUGM NAS please.

Serious question: how close do we get before it's considered a provocation?

Caught her on point 8 turn Key west. I'll try to get you a kml for MUGM tonite of a historical route used by the USN in mid 60's.

Loaded and flew a couple. The tracks look great. So far my only problem involved the start file for Juan da Fuca, at start, the aircraft is in the island of the carrier. I have tried it twice and both times are the same. A good job all around. Many thanks.

Here's a better Juan da Fuca flight.

Am also putting a Marseille-Nice track in the Clemenceau thread.p

ah, great re Clemenceau, i have the VFR French add ons installed, that will be a nice adjunct for them

The spelling should be Juan de Fuca. I changed my file names and that will
probably make them perform better.

Thank you. Getting there, getting there...

The trickiest thing seems to be getting the included flights right. I've gone through the whole batch and made some corrections. I'm pretty sure that they all start on deck now! Let me know if you find one that doesn't.

I've also aligned the parked aircraft with the carrier's direction of travel. It seems that the saved flight remember's the carrier's momentum, but not the aircraft's. The Hornet is pretty heavy, but the Goshawk can get pitched over on its tail. If you align aircraft with the momentum of the ship, it will roll forward -- so be ready to brake -- but it shouldn't flip over.

Yes, these are for the Nimitz model by Javier Fernandez. In the Flightsim.com file library:

I just downloaded the carriertracksvolume1.zip file from flightsim.com, and installed it. However, when I load any of the flights, I get the hornet in midair with no carrier anywhere in sight. I've got Javier's uss_nimitz_ike.zip installed in the default location, and the carrier shows up, no problem, in aicarriers. I installed the 3 bgl files in the carriertracksvolume1.zip into the Addon Scenery/scenery folder. Obviously I'm missing something, anybody any ideas?

Do you have your boat traffic slider set at 40% or higher? That's the minimum (for no special reason). Should definitely have included that info in the readme.
