Beautiful job Robert John.

If it is not too much trouble, perhaps provide a plain texture and a striped texture, and let the users decide which era they want to depict on their sims.

Robert John,
Excellent job on constructing the tower. :) Back when the tower was properly maintained by the Navy, that maroon-looking paint was probably close to insignia red. Over the years it has bleached out and been discolored by rust. A red-and-white and solid white option is probably the way to go. I have no idea how you incorporate damage but maybe (a) partially destroy the Air Ops building, (b) partially destroy the Air Ops building and a chunk of the tower, and (c) level the whole thing.

A contentious issue in the history of the island is the aircraft control tower.According to the Integrated Cultural Resource Management Plan for Commander Navy Region Hawaii’i in 2001, the tower is an icon of Ford Island and the entire base and stands like a sentinel keeping watch over its surroundings. It has been promoted as a recognizable symbol of the modern base and serves as a visual land-mark from on and off the island. Ground breaking for the operations building at the base of the tower began on Dec. 1, 1940 and construction continued throughout the following year. By Nov. 3 there were no stairs or elevator to allow for access to the tower and it was painted brown, not the famous candy stripe it has become famous for."

Damage Profile

Tarps is on the money, Bob Jon - DPs are progressive.

Since this particular tower was likely constructed of reinforced concrete (please correct me if I'm wrong !), it makes sense to have a multiple strike necessary to level the building.

Use DPEdit and create several structure boxes with damage mapping for each area. Don't be afraid to make it hard to knock it down, add some smoke, but not too many after-explosions.

[Unless an ember gets into the watch commander booze drawer, there won't be much to burn but furniture and paper].

Nothing quite like building something to blow it up !

Looking forward to seeing the Final Product.

Thanks

If the Navy still owns the tower and considers it such an historical icon, they ought to free up some funds to at least do a cosmetic restoration as it looks like crap now.

Robert John,

Douglas deals with and approves all uploads. I can see them in the download queue, but he has to give final approval.

Robert John,

The work your doing looks outstanding. If you really want to help, the Pearl Harbor Project has been stagnating for months. I'll send you a PM.

Robert, here is a pic of the tower. Irun a now very low end pc with win98se and I am pulling a good for me 30fps with everything pulled to the max.

More like years than months :icon_lol:.I still have the first missions I did for PHP2 from 2003.

Looking good Robert.

When I get my life back then I will finish..Robert here did a fine job with the tower... the ONLY person who has thought...

Well it's taking forever for PHP... so I am going to start building myself.

Kudos to Robert for this work!

Now there are about 20 other models just on Ford Island that need to be built to reach PHP current status.. then how about multi-res models so you can model all the buildings in the Ford Island, Pearl Harbor Naval Base and Hickam Field areas... and still get 20-30 fps.

Ah don't forget the 96 ships... 40 ships which we will cover as the major combatant's.

oh and get at least 100 planes of the Japanese in the air

and finally add up the planes on the ground... right now we have about 20 in the area including B17Cs @ Hickam and Catalinas on the ramp @ Ford.

So add the majority of the buildings in the Pearl Harbor 2 mile area radius, add the ships, add the Japanese attackers and then add the American static planes on the ground.

... and still get 20-30 fps.

.... and then go add damage models.

Yeah a wonder why it has taken so long. I have a problem doing things halfway.

We gave everyone the mesh and shorelines... go forth and multiply. PHP does not own license to 1941 Oahu or Pearl Harbor. We do this because we are detail nutjobs.

Nice job Robert!:applause:

I have a pic of the tower as it looked after the attack... as soon as I go thru my stuff I will send it to ya! :wavey:
