Hi, does anyone know if Skysim are still going or not?

I've been trying to get hold of them but all my emails have gone unanswered in the past few months. I bought the excellent Hawk product last year but need to re-download it, but I can't get an answer if this is possible or not. The link under my account has expired but it still says I'm entitled to 4 more downloads.

Cheers

James

Hi James

I think you may be correct mate

not been payed for any hawk sales for over a year mate (plenty!) :blind:

forum has been dead for a few weeks and skysim's owner has not replied to any of my e mails or answered his text messages i sent him over the last few months.

Check your PM's for Hawk T1 info

Regards
Rick

Hi Craig

Brian is still around here sometimes so you should still be able to get the Sea Vixen at some point.

Nobody from Skysim told us anything and we know as much as everyone else (zip!):kilroy:

Same situation as me

I guess... Skysim was dead

:gameoff::gameoff::gameoff::gameoff:

I like Skysim "Hawk" but don't like Skysim, i never buy again

worst of worst support .....

As far as I know Skysim is not dead. I only provide support for the Mirage so I can't help you with the Hawk or the Sea Vixen. I'll email the boss and ask what's up.

Mickey D and I have been doing some maintenance on the forum this month -- it was down for only one week. It was spammed to the point of not being useful anymore. But we fixed that so you can view everything without having to create an account. That allows us to go in once in a while and zap all account with zero posts. Those tend to belong to the spammers.

I had to ask for a new activation for my hawk a couple of months ago, due to a reformated drive, that came back OK (and wrks) so the support is working.

No. He's saying he hasn't been paid recently. Your reading things that aren't there, Warwick. If never getting paid had been the case from day one I don't think many Hawks would have been sold at all. Myself anyway, I would have pulled it. But it has made them some money and was sold in a boxed version at air shows and such in the UK. This is what I've been told all along anyway. Perhaps Rick can clarify or refute?
:ernae:

Yep, if Rick hasn't been paid in a year, I'd pull it, place it somewhere else to get some income off it and sue someone!

Hi Francois

Yes mate i know your right :icon_lol:

need to wait for my spark to reappear first as it was extinguished with that last experience.

To be honest i got a better feeling just doing freeware

trouble is FSX modelling is so time consuming to get it all to the required level that i am not sure i will ever get back enough of the spark.

I have 6 models in various stated of build and really don't feel like getting back to them in any depth in the near future.

Joe public really has no idea how long reasonable models take time wise.

Like the Hawk review on FS.com killed off a lot of sales complaining i didn't model the APU (the Hawk T1 has no APU)

but the review is still sitting there uncorrected even though i contacted the author.

so i have sort of lost faith really as it's too much work to get kicked in the gonads when there is no mistake.

Now if i could model & texture like Lotus Simulations i would be content to struggle forwards :icon_lol:

But I can't :pop4:

Hi Michael

Not worth the time to sue these days unless you can afford to lose.

when you start something with friends and it goes TU you just walk away in my view.

I might release the Hawk as Freeware soon as i see nothing of the money It may as well be free.

then i can get back on developing it as i originally intended before it was neutered by the decision to make it Red Arrows only!

all this after i painted 20 liveries and made 5 variants:monkies:

I know I would. I own your Hawk, which, as with all your other models, is great fun to fly and of a very high standard, and I'd hate to think that someone else was profiting off the back of your hard work, whilst you aren't getting a penny of it. And I suppose the best way of cutting them off is to remove the incentive for anyone else to buy the thing, if they can get it for free!

Sorry to hear how things have panned out with Skysim, Rick. I do hope that you continue to create models for FS. I'm sure your Chippie would be welcomed with open arms...as well as equally opened wallets! :ernae:

Funny that, reads almost exact same as my POV right now but with my models and another publisher, two actually, the models are still on sale but the time lag for funds to get to the actual bods doing the grafting is becoming longer and longer, so much to the point as its just easier to ditch all FS work and stack shelves or pick mushrooms at the local farm shop.....if I can get past all the Polish immigrant workers LOL.... in my spare time to make up the loss.

Its not just the publishers hanging on to their funds to keep afloat, its the nigh on fanatical demand for next to near perfect models in a sim thats not perfect.

Theres only two basic routes in payware, do it yourself which is bloody hard work, or publish through others and accept they're probably going to mess or screw up something along the way, pre or post release.

In the past I'd welcome and help along anyone interested in commercial work, even if they moved onto other pastures, now I advise all to think very seriously before committing to commercial work, it has its highs, but it has some massive low.

Michael

I cannot help thinking that VERY few people get rich making payware for MSFS but just get a lot of flak from customer's most of the time, about small niggles.

If developers went back to freeware, 99% of users would overlook any small faults (the more people pay, the more they expect total perfection), and the developer could get on making new projects, rather than fire fight customer service matters on behalf of 'shady' (in some cases) publishers.

Luckily my small sceneries are not worth anything, so it is a dilemma I will not have to face:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:
