'Watched The Movie "Star Trek" Last Night'...

.....Too bad about the Corvette....

Yes - this was the only part that elicited any kind of emotional response from me. Although, I'm pretty sure that was all CGI, since no one in their right mind would do that to a vintage 'vette.

.....Too bad about the Corvette....

Yeah, that upset me. I excercise in the park every day if the weather isn't too fierce, and every Tuesday in the Summer the classic car guys have their Cruiser Night, and you see close up how much work they put into keeping these things roadworthy...that's enough; I may tear up.

Anyway, again, in the Special Edition you get to see what led up to Kirk crashing the car. Not what I would have done. Another thing that deleted scene made me wonder: don't they have Child Services in the Federation?

I was more upset about the fact that only one of the enterprise crews redshirts died. :icon_lol:

Oh yeah....forgot about that..

In days of yore with the old tv series running a book amongst yer mates...

"He's a dead'un" the shout would go.

Sorry for the shameless plug, but if any of you are in Singapore in 2 weeks, we have an event coming up featuring some top level Hollywood designers. Few of them designed all the stuff you see in this movie (Star Trek)...plus stuff from Avatar, Transformers 2, etc. :)

I'm so looking forward to Avatar man. I love classic looking sci-fi...

here's the website w/ the info:

ps. I loved this "new" Star Trek movie. I was never a big fan of ST, but this movie was pretty entertaining...

Big Trek fan and this film gets a huge thumbs up from me. It's exciting to see Trek back and getting the attention it deserves rather than being run into the ground by Rick Berman and crew.

B&B dug Treks grave, J.J. just covered the coffin with CONCRETE ! This movie (effects aside) is so bad it deserved NO comment from a 30+ year fan.</snip></snip></snip>

My grain of salt:

Agreed, I have all the old movie DVDs and have seen all the originals, so I was looking forward to this when it came out and wasn't dissapointed. I thought they did a good job on casting (except for young Scotty) and loved the special effects. I went into it expecting there to be issues with continuity, but overall was happy with how they connected the old with the new. I'm with Piglet on the set designs though, what were they thinking?

The main thing I like is that this gives the franchise more life. with new faces to keep it going, look forward to the next one..

Spock, ladies man? I...don't...think...so! Plus, no red shirts died during the making of the film...

Here, this explains how Star Trek should work: :icon_lol:

Set the crack pipe down, and back away slowly.

B&B dug Treks grave, J.J. just covered the coffin with CONCRETE ! This movie (effects aside) is so bad it deserved NO comment from a 30+ year fan.

Buried the franchise in concrete? Star Trek earned $257,730,019 domestically, and a sequel is in the works. Reference HERE: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=startrek11.htm

I can't speak for Chris H, but for future reference, and to avoid a flare up, I ask you, with all due respect, to NOT to associate me, that being James, with crack or crack pipes. I have ZERO sense of humor on the subject.

ATTN: Dain Arns,

You need to dust off your Original Series DVDs; Spock got his share of the ladies. I uspect they wanted him because they couldn't have him...

JAMES

PS Did everyone note that the Corvette, too, was red?

If you didn't like it then that's fine, that's the beauty of personal taste. Knock if off on the crack pipe comments and other comments like that though please.

Back on topic for the thread; don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore Trek and I'm a total geek so there were a few errors here and there I spotted that I could really let wind me up if I were being fanboy-ish and pedantic but at the end of the day I left the cinema with a big smile on my face after expecting to hate it, and I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.

Job done, I'd say.

Aye, my apologies for the 'pipe' comment, it was meant as a joke (sorry about your lack of humor),

Anyway my opinion stands regardless of how much money the film made, just meant to illustrate how creativity these days has gone down the drain when writers have to invent a completely new timeline because they can't work within the boundaries set by the previous generation of writers.

Regardless, I saw the film once, and it was one too many times for me.

And now the big question...

Who has "won" in this thread - the haters or the likers :ques:

Good thing we all get to choose.....:mixedsmi:

Who was it that said no red shirts died? Did you watch the movie? Three people did the orbit jump onto the platform, two made it. What color was the uniform of the third crewman (the one with the explosives)? Maybe he was just gone so fast you didn't notice.
