I will not go into long winded details here about all that has gone wrong of the last 6 months.....I bought two high end systems, neighter of them would run FSX properly....So I built my own...It rocks for everything but FSx..And now FS9 sucks on it too...Its not the build, its not the GPU...It has the same issues with ATI and Nvidia....On two different machines.....

So I'm done with Flight Simming completely....Beaten,Confused,and way Over it....I have literally spent the last 6 months puzzeling over issue after issue..I have dumped dollar after dollar into this thing that just stumps the best minds as to whats going on....

So I say ..Good riddence to FSX till some answers appear, and I expect none..... It has been a pleasure being here with the interest of a boy on Christmas morning, reading, checking out the latest and greatest, and chassing an impossible dream...LOL

I am by no means leaving SOH, as I find it fun here...But my interest in these Sims is well shoved down my throat.....:costumes: I have no answers nor clues....So I say ...Happy flying to all that have systems that function properly..I however have a life to recapture...:banghead: And am in search of a different type of game for a pastime, one that will just install and work as its susposed to do...HeHe.....

And I eagerly await the new Train Sim..As the first never ran on three different computers I owned....LOL.....Hopefully this one will.......:applause:

Sorry to hear your difficulties with pcs. I am surprised that Fs9 won't work on your latest machine. What problems did you find with Fs9?

Roger.

Sorry to hear about your troubles running FSX and FS9. Computers are strange creatures, you have a high end computers and graphic cards that won't fun the flight sims, while I have a mid range computer and graphic card and I have no problems with running FSX or FS9. My suggestion is remove the flight sims from your computer and do something else for awhile and then er try it again later. Anyway glad you are still going to hang around SOH.

Sad to read that. I hope it will be only a short break.
I had the impression that you have been a little bit overchallenged, which isn't bad, because no one can know everything and can be for everything an expert.
I think it would have been easier for you if you would have a Flightsimmer in your neighbourhood, because not everything can be learned/solved via the internet.
If someone is always getting problems, then there is something fundamentally going wrong and i think that it could be easily solved by someone who would look into your PC and would try to help you - but real and not via the internet.

There is a PC service guy/company especially for flightsimmer.. i did read about it @Avsim, but i forgot the name.. i think something like that would be really helpful for you.
Good luck!

Yep, same case here. I read from time to time where folks with thousands tied up in a computer that won't run FSX and I have an ACER computer I bought off the shelf from Best Buy for less than $300, transferred some of the salvagable components from my previous system into it and running FSX and FS9 with no problems at all.

Sorry to hear that you're dumping it and I have no explanation for the problems you're having based on what I'm running. . .it's doesn't seem that you should have any trouble at all. Hope you reconsider although I can certainly understand the frustration.

Harleyman, would you mind posting me the description of your current hardware and the current settings you are using in FSX ?

I don't understand why FS9 will not perform on your new machine. FSX akes a fairly high-end machine, which I now have. Even then I'm lucky to get 20 fps. But FS9 zips in my new unit.

Tell us your specs on your tower and your problems with the sims, there's a lot of help here at SOH.

Thanks Guys...Its just the ripping effect up and down the screen...i am really just going into a hold pattern with it...After the Holidays I may give it a retry...

I am going to Texas after the Holidays for a visit, and there happens to be a well known guru there that has agreed to have a look..So computer and monitor will also make the trip.....LOL

I'm not angry what so ever...Its a strange beast we have here...I need a well deserved break...I just can't imaging never Simming again..And if it take s till FS11 to get back into the game, thats cool too......:applause:

Thanks for the well wishes, and all everyones advice here.....There is a shop close by that the lead tech is a simmer...I may after the holidays take it to him first for a look...But its the time of year to be merry and bright...And FSX seems to dampen that ...So I will have a rest....Thanks...

Ok For what its worth...

Case: Thermaltake VH8000BWS BK

I have tried every setting with the help od Txnetcop...Every config tweak... Used ATI and Nvidia with the same issues...Bough a bigger monitor(more resolution 1920X1200 Installed FSX on two different machines...Same problem...Changed power sourses.....All other games run just fine.........

It just Ripples all over the place and is horrible....Unflyable to say the least...I have discovered one thing,SP2 makes it worse...But SP 1 just is not as bad....LOL

I'm sorry you've got to this point, it makes me feel kind of guilty for having so few problems. Really, it's a miracle a program like FSX runs at all when you think about the huge range of mobos, processors, graphics chips, RAM types etc that qualify as a 'PC' these days. Somehow (most of the time) it all seems to work.

I've not really followed your saga, so forgive me if you've already answered this obvious & naive question, but will your system run FSX completely stock? I mean the default C:\program files\microsoft games\ installation with no tweaks or patches.

Harleyman, if the "ripping effect" you describe is the same thing I had at one time changing video card drivers took care of the problem. I know it's a simple suggestion and one you've probably already tried, but it's worth a shot if you haven't!

Darrell

try catalyst 8.9 for ati card. i have on three computers low and high end ati and nvidia and no problems at all...could be a config error on 2 simulators?

Mason,

I'm sorry to hear of your computer troubles with FSX!!! :isadizzy: I don't have any advice to offer other that which you've already taken; road-trip to TEXAS!!.....

Keep your chin held high.

Keep in touch!!

Kevin :d

Wow, that is really sad to hear and odd at the same time. Got any images of the "rippling" effect?

I had an issue when I had Fs2002, no matter what I did, the sim closed to desktop after a few minutes. I couldn't throw a whole lot of money at it, but did replace a few components and had it in the shop 6 times, still it was only with FS2002. The ONLY reason I keep trying to find a fix was I was in the middle of designing my Aloha Village scenery and wasn't going to quite.

One day I was talking to one of the IT guys at work and it came up, he said he'd stop by and take a look at it. Turned out to be some kind of memory allocation deal and after 15 minutes he fixed what 6 shop visits and numerous "techs" couldn't!

I have tried all the oldest and newest drivers for ATI and Nvidia......

I tried to get shots of the effect but it does not show up...I tried to capture it od a wave file but it too onlt stuttered...I was going to set up the camcorder on tripod but I never did....LOl :d

Meanwhile I'm thinking of Silent Hunter........:wavey:

I have RMAed a mobo..vid card..and V-Raptor...That was not the answer...Oh well.....Not the end of the world.....HeHe Thanks again to all for suggestions...I got (1) 357 that costs a buck...Hmmmm Wonder if that will fix it? LOL

V sync to no avail .....:banghead:

It is to say the least the goofiest looking thing / situation I have ever seen.......

Sorry to hear this,Mason. Though maybe you'll get to spend a little more time with your bike(s).....give me a HD any day over FS9/FSX:d
Glad you're sticking around the forums. :)

Thanks Kilo...Yea my bike needs some lovin now...Not going away...Just taking an extended break thru the holidays from the nightmare....LOL

Thanks for that :applause: :wavey:

I had strange problems like this and it had to do with some windows update tweaks. Some files from Microsoft that would help with gaming and such. Once i started removing them 1 by 1 i found the problem update and got rid of it. Then everything came together.
