I'm reminded of the adage that the record for the lowest low level can only be tied and is held by many. None celebrated -- at least for very long! :engel016:

BTW Ken..... Last November I joined the 7G Club here at KILG.... in "Pipsqueak" the Reno Racer #2, L-39C flown by Capt. Joe Gano. No, no G-suit or lunch bag. ;) Actually it was a tad over 7Gs, but hey, why be pickie. LOL
 
I once rented a Piper Arrow after someone who was known for being a crazy pilot. There were green grass stains on the wings. You can bet my walkaround was extra thorough.

Agreed!

When saw that clip I immediately thought it was way too close. I suppose it's desirable to earn cool ponts, but when it becomes a fraction of an inch between a cool video and an all time tragic and senseless one, I think one should avoid the risks unless there's a worthwhile benefit derived from it.

Exactly. I can't imagine that the pilot was solidly in control of that inch or two. At that level of closeness, he could have very well wacked him dead with all the same control inputs.

There's probably a good chance the pilot didn't have his hands on the controls at all as the F-1 has a Terrain Following Radar system. I have seen footage where the pilot is reading a map with both hands while smoking along the deck at near mach. Look Ma, no hands. :icon_eek: Now you just have to hope the autopilot doesn't hiccup.:173go1:
