Battle of Midway... coming to a theater near you.

Could be interesting. If it's an "unofficial sequel" to "Pearl Harbor", then I guess we can expect to see 25 Japanese carriers, and 500 Vals attacking Yorktown! :icon_lol:

Reply....

PRB,

That, and let's just make sure Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck don't sleep with the same girl again.

Sure hope it's not a sequel to Pearl Harbor.

I reported onboard the Lexington when they were wrapping up filming the 1976 version. A few of my old shipmates are in the backgrounds in that version. It'd be hard to beat that one for me to begin with.

....Anything would be better than the 1976 release of "Midway" starring Charlton Heston and Henry Fonda. From hooky dialogue lines and overacting,....to inserting old documentary film clips of aircraft never flown in the Battle of Midway,...such as the Grumman F6F Hellcat...this feature movie is painful to watch. So I don't.
On 2nd thought,.....not sure if I'd watch this one too,....might bring back torturous memories of the first one.......best to stick to the documentaries or a good book on the engagement.

The 1976 Midway relied heavily on stock footage of WWII carrier ops, some of which was inaccurate for mid-1942. Almost all the gun camera scenes were lifted from The Fighting Lady. With computer graphics nowadays it's possible to show the battle as it actually played out. Imagine the scene of Torpedo Eight's TBD's bravely making their runs as they're shot down one by one, until only Ens. Gay's plane is left. Or a panoramic view of a Japanese carrier as one of the Army B-26's flies the length of the flight deck, guns blazing. Pretty awesome. :)

I recognize Bruce McKenna's name. He was one of the directors that did Band of Brothers. With that on his resume, I'd say the film is in good hands.

A 3D Movie of the Battle of Midway? Yikes ... them bullets are gonna be comin at us ...

I saw Midway in a theater when it first came out. They had some type of new sound system that rattled the theater and tickled your guts when an engine started. It didn't last but it was rather neat for it's time.

Moses03,

It seems that women might be a bigger fan of this....essentially you're sitting on a vibrator. ;)

Make that comment ... "SOME women" ... my ex couldn't handle one of those without breaking into a hysterical laughing fit "cuz it tickles soo much!"

Always will remember seeing Midway at the ol Cine Capri in Phoenix, AZ... June 9, 1976.... and not for the Sensurround...although was awed. :icon_lol:

Nine years old and I was big into the USS Arizona because it was named after my state ...Dad took me out of school for a day so we could go see the USS Arizona Memorial dedication at the Capitol.

Dad took me to see 'Midway' for my birthday....and afterwards got back to the Sevilla's market across the street from St. Joesph's Hospital... Mom came out blurted out Happy Birthday and explained that she could not find the USS Arizona model and they got me a model of the USS Missouri instead.

Dad was like 'DOH!' I felt so bad for Mom.. she seemed disappointed.... loved the model though.

I got the USS Arizona for Christmas later that year.

Thanks Mom and Dad!!:wavey:

Always will remember 'Midway' for them.

That, and let's just make sure Josh Hartnett and Ben Affleck don't sleep with the same girl again.
