Flight Replicas L-4 Released!

Just got it and made the first meters on a taxiway - did the original also jump like a rodeo horse already at very low speed.
Its a real beaut -but the behaviour on the ground is slightly confusing me.

Mike

Are you running FSX SP2/Acceleration?

This behaviour was only found to happen (occasionally) in FSX/ FSXSP1.

Mike

Well I find this very frame rate friendly in Dx10 mode. Transition from spot to vc is instant (as opposed to some models that allow you to crash before you can see where you're going:costumes:). Texture loading at the start up screen is much faster than most complex models.

All in all it's a great easy to fly and of course is as STOL as a J3 Cub. :ernae:

Thanks for the pics folks - it looks really promising -do the engine cylinder heads (sticky out bits!!) also create shadows?

thank you in advance - otherwide I will only fly the Aussie-L-4, jumping like a Kanguroo:costumes:

Different surfaces tend to exibit a greater or lesser tendency to jump. So far I've flown from concrete and asphalt with no jumping.

You know, I am having a real hard time seeing the shadows in the screenshots as well. Maybe someone did not have them turned on when they took them. I see the shadows just fine in my sim.

Guess I need to put a note on the page that it has shadows, specular, and bumps maps.

Great amounts of cloud cover cause the shadows to become less distinct...just like real life!:engel016:

Mike .........
I opened the yellow one and looked at the textures. The fuse and wings were 2048, 32bit, DDS.unknown alpha.
I copied the original textures to a sub folder for safe keeping. Then I went thru all the textures, opening them in Photoshop making them 1024 (No Larger) and saving as DXT5, DDS. Original folder size was 90 mgs, My folder is 20 mgs. It now loads instantly.
I have a P4 3.2, 2 gigs ram, FSB is 800mhz, Card is AGP, eVGA 7600 GS with 512 k. My frames with the original tex's were .3 to about 6. Frames after the conversion runs about 12 to 15.
DXT5 DDS is much better. It flies great. With the original tex's I couldn't fly it.
I got a long row to hoe converting all the tex's to DXT5.

As Roger says, clouds diminish shadows, just like real life. As I always fly with Active Sky X, and it's usually cloudy these days.... :)

Thanks for the info, Joe, and others with your computer performance can use that. Good to know.

Hi folks - thanks for the info - just going to buy it - what would I do without SOH to help me spend and sometimes save my money!!:jump:

What a great fit at Plum Island! :applause: Thanks, Mike, for a great little airplane that looks super and flies just as nice. :ernae:

cheers,
steve :wavey:

3 words to describe it:

"I love it."

Just bought it tonight. Tinkered around with it a bit around Friday Harbor. Thanks guys. I had a chance to see a couple of these birds at a museum just about 30 minutes from my house. It is nice to put around in one :D

Excellent aircraft Mike. I took her for a couple circuts outa aerosofts Aspin scenery near full right all sliders. Nailed 22fps fluid no stutters. this was on my test comp a Amd 3500 64bit 2gig ram, 512 8500gt, 750 PSU, Nitrogen cooled with WI cold air:costumes: -17f. Im very pleased with this beautiful rendering of WW2 history. Thank You.:ernae::applause:

Hello Mike,

I built these models of an 105mm howitzer and explosion effect and jeep drivers for the SU LT-6G FAC. My thinking was that they could be used to help re-create scenes of artillery liason for the plane to fly around in.

If you like, I could ask Jesse if he would be interested in bundling them with your L-4 as well as the T-6G.

That way CodeValkyrie could get his hands on them without having to wait for me to finish the T-6 :jump:
