OrbX NA Warbirds Airfield Scenery

paulb

Still here!
I would love to have a 'home' to fly warbirds in the OrbX/FTX NA scenery. Hopefully there are others here who would enjoy such a 'home'?

I have started a thread at FTX. If you are interested then please add your support by posting in the thread

Who knows, with enough interest we might get a new airport add-on for our Warbird flying?

Cheers

Paul

Snohomish, otherwise known as Paine Field, would be one of the best suited for this, since there is a huge warbird presence at that airport, including the warbirds of the Flying Heritage Collection and Heritage Flight Foundation - between these two museums alone, there is a huge assortment of WWII aircraft (some of the best restorations of their type on the planet) based there. It would be cool to have the museum's hangars, etc., modeled in detail.

I know I have always thought it would be awesome to have a very detailed version of Chino airport, a warbird hub, like that of Fly Tampa's work, or similar.

Paine Field is a good place for this. The best actually for Washington state. It would be real nice to see this added in as an Orbx feature.

Good idea Paul!

I'm biased, and couldn't afford any Orbx add-on airports anyway, but I'd kind of like to fly classic aircraft from what I believe is the oldest operating licensed airfield in the US...

...but then as I say, I'm biased. ;)

I'm fortunate enough to live 1/4 mile away from Paine field and have a 15MP camera....so if anyone at OrbX needs on site pictures....*nudge*...*nudge*

I would like to see them do Abbotsford in BC. Ex-RCAF field, used yearly for a large international airshow, and with all the US strips they have done it would be nice to have one in Canada.

In '57, I was stationed at Paine AFB/Snohomish Co, spending many hours in a little weather shack at the approach end. Watched the original Dash-70 make seemingly endless practice approaches, long before Boeing had any presence on the field. There was a local based P51 who'd terrorize the base F89 Scorpions. The OD (officer of the day), usually a squadron pilot, would often chat about how bad he made them look.

Yes and Abbotsford is well within the OrbX PNW area... how is that off topic? PNW covers Canada and the US. Several add on airfields have been added for the US side, I said it would be nice if they did one for the Canada side.. sorry...

No no, my apology!! I did not know this :salute: carry on sir :ernae:

LOL no problem sir. :salute:

As a matter of fact the Abbotsford Air Show is usually run on the same day as one in Portland although I am not sure where, you may know better. In the past some of the US planes have taken off at Abbotsford, done a routine then flown to Portland for another, landing there. For the afternoon show they do the same in reverse. It could make a cool pack to have both airports and airshows with missions to do similar things ;)

Looks like it was the Oregon Intl. Airshow at Portland-Hillsboro, but it is one week after Abbotsford this year.. well there goes that idea lol

Well here are a few pics of Paine Field/ KPAE, Snohomish County Airport, Washington. Not too far from Darrington etc for short hops? :d

I land at KPAE at least once every session. Nice long runways.
....Do I see photo scenery mixed in there? Not the Google image..lol

I'd like to nominate Skagit Regional, up north of Payne Field. A little smaller and more out in the country, not as built up.

Yes Skagit is an option - the Skagit Aero Museum is there. If we can encourage FTX to creat an add on, its hard to know if they would prefer to do a smaller airport along the lines of their current offerings - and with their rustic style and character - or whether they might be happy to branch out and cover a larger airport such as KPAE?

BTW, I just found that Historic Air Flight also operates at Kilo 7/Paine Field (KPAE).

Edit _ I just realised that Bomber_12th mentioned the Historic Air Flight in his earlier post!

I had the same thought when I flew there just now. I only have FSX/Acceleration and FTX PNW installed. But there is a B-52 there also. Maybe OrbX added the photo scenery to that airport?
