...never did have time to look over my shoulder.
Well, in "thud ridge" ,Cnl Jack Broughton specify that "you can´t see the wings from the cockpit". i will have to look for the exact page in the book for the quotation, but i think the man knows what he is talking about.

Did they even have collimated reticles back in the late 1950s when the Thud was being built? Won't make any claims on the presentation of the gunsight. I think it was made by our "effects" guy at the time. If it was that bad I would have figured Cliff Presley would have said something since he was working with us for several weeks before release and putting forth a lot of feedback to get things right.Although it is an overall "good" on the great-horrible scale to me; the real detractor for the Alphasim Thud is the targeting reticule. It looks like it was drawn by crayons and then pixilated. Unfortunately, Alphasim/Virtavia HUDs and Reticules are not collimated either.

BTW, where are these loads of skins I have heard about? I can only find 2 for the current Thud, and the old ones don't work.

I pretty sure you're right about the reticle just being planar with the main VC panel. That type looks very strange when viewed from the side. Kirk's F1 is like that as well.Howdy,

You did a great job on the liveries; I would love to see a few more out there, and the correct speed brake animation is icing on the cake, it is just the VC that bugs me. I can send you some screen shots when I get home. Out of the 9 results returned at Avsim, 3 of them are the old format (won’t work with new model), and 2 are fictional. Thanks for the link to your repaints; I’ve been on the Mirage page a thousand times (I’m a huge F1 fan), but never noticed that link (Duh!). That’s another 10 for the collection, thanks.

As far as the absolute definition of collimated HUD (specifically the use of a set of precision ground collimating lenses and combiners), you’re right, the F-105 technology was 2 generations behind. However, from the standpoint of collimated simply meaning “optically aligned”, they were technically collimated reticules. I’m not at home right now, but I believe the VC on the Thud doesn’t use a separate texture application for the reticle, thus it is planar with the main VC panel. I have been meaning to build up a high res fix for the 3 graphic options, but haven’t had time atm.

On the long list of projects I have, is a drop in 60’s era reticle and tracking display. The plan is to make it customizable so that a single freeware gauge could change the color and reticle geometry to match the F-8, F-4, F-105 etc, and include the gun sight, basic missile tracking “dot” (for the F-4 option), range ring and scale without all of the modern bells and whistles (ladder, airspeed altitude etc..) that ruin the ambiance. For me simulation is a way of preserving aviation heritage, so being able meet the personality of the aircraft is paramount.
