seems like I've been waiting a long time for this Ryan...she looks sweet Spad

got to sit in the one at Gillespie Field that the SD Aerospace museum is restoring - I needed a cigarette after that and I don't smoke 'em
 
I'm sure you have a lot of reference material, but I have access to a nice young PT-22 pilot that I could probably get you guys in touch with. This will be a must buy for me.

Looks great! I'm glad to see another GAS creation in the pipeline.

Out of curiousity, is an FS9 version also in the works?

No not for FS9. Top Flight Simulations released an FS9 version in 2010, so we'll leave that alone. Here a few shots of current progress, some basic place holder textures as the final bitmaps are worked out.

Oh yea. . . .Beautiful work!!! Like Sundog, I've got a Pitcairn to keep me busy for now so steady as she goes Spad!!!:salute:

A while ago I was at a small airshow in Petaluma, there was a Fairchild PT-19 parked next to a PT-22 with the inline engine. Suprised the PT-22 seemed a bit smaller than the PT-19.

Yes sir, this one is very special for us (me) took all day today to model the canvas oleo strut covers. We'll get her right.....promise.
 
Open cockpit, bracing wires, wheel pants...all the elements of the Golden Age.

You guys can go ahead and spend my money, I'm sold on the Ryan Recruit / STA

I have to also say that the last few planes I have purchased from GAS have been excellent in quality, from the Stearman, the Whirlygig, the Stinson Jr etc..

all great value and low impact on FPS in FSX.

I rank the Ryan right up there with the Stearman as my all time favorite aircraft in r/l - so glad you guys are making one for FSX
 
(Sorry to bring up a pilot-related issue, as I know that everyone hates bringing up pilot-size, but...) ...just a friendly (light-hearted) reminder to re-check the scale of the model of the pilot. ; )
Right now, the current pilot fitted, is just making the PT-22 look quite large-compared to its "actual-size-to-average-pilot-size" ratio (having been up-close in person with a few different examples over the last couple of years, it is only built big enough to barely allow two people in, and not much more - the nice thing being, that you feel very 'one with the airplane' when you are seated in the cockpit). : )

Yup the pilot has been upsized. Appreciate the feedback. Just remember its a work in progress. The picture provided is very helpful and appreciated Thanks
 
I liked your mention about the oleo 'socks/covers'. The great thing about FSX, is that it finally allows for the ability to animate them properly/just like the real thing, with the support for skinned-mesh/bone-animation (that can't be done in previous flight sims).

I also applaud you for striving to do both the PT-22 and STA, as for those that have/do get into the details between them, know they are definitely two different aircraft.
 
there is another slight difference between the photo and the beta model WRT the undercarriage.

the beta has bracing wire from the center of the lower fuselage out to the lower pinion of the left and right rear gear strut - but in the photo they appear to be metal rods...?

or are my old eyes not seeing clearly
