Not my cup of tea though as has already been said its nice to see them modelling the wierd ones again, IMHO that was always Alphasims strong suit... modelling a wide and varied range that noone else wanted to touch :applause:

I agree completely pity - I just don't like the vc texturing - or lack of. time appears to have stood still with some devs
 
I bought the R3Y because it was one of the first model airplanes I built when I was a wee kid. The VC is quite primitive, but functional. After it enters the water on its really cool cradle it is almost uncontrollable and very difficult to get in the air. Once in the air it does fly nice and it will give a smooth landing. But without good prop reverse, it takes forever to slow down.

I did a model of the R3Y a couple of years ago and had to add prop reverse to get it to slow down. I'm sure the FD I used were based on different templates than the Virtavia model. I had to add thrust reverse to my model of the Saunders Roe SR-45 to get it to slow down and just did the same thing to my upcoming Short Shetland for the same reasons. They all started with different FD templates. I think this is a FSX problem, didn't have it in FS9.
Regarding the control problem in the water, this is just a guess. When the beaching gear is made invisible if you don't have it disappear up and away it is still in the water but invisible. That would add to all kind of headaches!

Just downloaded it and have had very little time to fool around with it, but the basic take-off, landings, and maneuvering on the water is OK on my computer. Slowing down after landing right.....I just set the engines to idle, and press F2 (reverse thrust, per the manual), and the aircraft does so down.....I don't touch the throttles after I press F2

To turn left on the water, I set all the engines to idle, then press E 3 (to limit control to engine number 3) and throttle up as required to turn the plane. Once I'm set in the direction I want to be pointed in, I throttle back to idle, then press E 1 2 3 4 ( to return control to all engines).

Opps.....just saw PutPut's post above....John, were you talking about using the breaching cradle to maneuver the aircraft in the water? I didn't think of that.....
 
Flew a short hop with the R3Y in the Philippines, from Bacolod to Boracay Island. Worked fine for me, although it's easy to overspeed if you get distracted by sightseeing or browsing the cockpit. In the water I had no problem turning the bird with just right/left rudder and adding a little power. Definitely worth the price if you're into big Navy multi-engine types - especially ones like the R3Y that weren't around for long.

well I see the same old problem popping up again...some folks find the flight model Ok, while others seem to have problems with it. Yes, this bird was tested and the few issues that appeared were corrected, but my computer seems to live in it's own little world. So if those of you who are having problems will do some testing and make sure you are flying per the manual and then post your issue here I will be happy to have a look at it. I want those who have spent their hard earned dollars to have a happy and enjoyable flying experience with the flight models that I create. We are aware that there are many variables that show up from one computer to the next so with that in mind I'll do my best to iron out whatever bugs show themselves. The biggest issue for any developer is trying to re-create a problem that never showed up in the first place (if that makes any sense). Anyway as I said I want everyone to have fun with these planes and will do what I can to see that folks are satisfied whenever possible.

A couple of thoughts before I sign off, if you beach the dash2 and don't pull her to far onto the land holding F2 should back you off the beach. Water rudder is activated so if you have some rudder control on your joystick just give right or left rudder and she'll turn on a dime. The beaching gear should have no affect in the water as all drag has been turned off. Keep in mind that FSX handles planes on land and water differently. As was noted prop reverse is active in all models by pressing and holding F2. I'll keep an eye on this thread for any other issues that might arise.

Finally got back to FSX and the R3Y. Checked the prop reverse assignment on my throttle and found faulty setup. Now it reverses great...can go backwards if I want. But still cannot control things after I taxi into the water in the cradle. The aircraft skids around and speeds up on its own. I can now slow it down, but it still bounces after I remove cradle. So I just add max power and takeoff. Flying, landing, and beaching are all normal after the initial difficulties. All things considered, I like this boat.

from what you describe it almost sounds like the aircraft is somehow entreing slew mode But that is really not possible without hitting the slew key.

This is a long shot and most likely won't help the bouncing, but try changing the current number of static_cg_height from 10.6 to 2

i,e, static_cg_height = 2

If it does not help just change the number back.

Just tested entering the water (with the cradle) off Midway Island , and it all went as planned. No bounce with I removed the cradle (I pressed the G key). Maneuvering the aircraft via the rudder, or via asymmetrical thrust went as planned too.

Try this.....

After you enter the water, move your throttle back to idle, and set your prop pitch to maximum pitch (ctrl-F4). Does your aircraft still speed up??? My aircraft slows down and come to a complete stop with those settings.

Also, I'm running FSX Acceleration, but don't know if that really matters???

I see I'm not the only one flying around Midway. I like flying out of Midway, as the scenery is easy on my frame rates, and there are no mountains to fly into......:blind:

I'm having the bouncing around as well. So far it's after landing and I come to stop it starts bouncing around and it becomes uncontrollable. Even slew doesn't help because it doesn't settle into the water. I'll try changing the static height and see if that does anything.

A few questions for both Crash Hawk and JoJohnson
are you running acceleration?
which operating sytem?
what type of controller?
does it happen on default water or on add-on scenery?

we're trying to isolate what you two may have in common that might be causing the problem.
