LDR Development Ryan Navion B Released!

Thanks Kevin :)

By the way folks... I've just uploaded two more paint schemes... Both wearing German registrations. A totally fictional wine red one, and a cirrus based scheme a friend requested... I thought I'd share them... (soon as the Librarian approves them).

Greetings to all,

This is my first post at the ol' Outhouse.

I am a long time simmer who has lurked here for a while and taken advantage of the library from time to time.

I have dabbled in scenery, panels, and repainting, yet have never uploaded anything for the masses.

Time for that to change.

I gotta tell ya that I love this plane. It is without a doubt one of the finest freebirds I have seen, though I haven't seen them all,...yet.

It is a joy to fly and I like the attention to detail it shows, all the way down to the gear inspection mirrors on the tip tanks. And the paintkit is awesome, along with the mapping, which makes painting it easier.

Enough of the chitchat, I give you N4892K...

still a few warts to fix and details to finish

I hope to have her ready for upload in a couple days.

I plan on a makeover for the interior which will be seperate, for use with other skins.

For pics and info of the real thing- http://navion.com/4892K.html

Not bad for a 64 year old plane.

cheers,
Lane

Beautiful repaint Lane; thank you for your interest in sharing it; a real keeper.

Firekitten, your work on textures and bump maps has been extraordinary. It rises to lofty levels easily complimenting the high standards Larry set for this project. My congrats and best wishes to the whole LDR team for a superb effort and gracious gift to the community. This aircraft package is a testament to the long hours of behind-the-scenes work over years by a dedicated group, some of whom are still in the shadows, that demonstrates collaboration and tenacity to getting it right. My hat is off to you Larry, Dave, Rachel, and to Rob and Bill, and to others who assisted along the way. Excellent project, results, and delivery. Big smiles all around. I look forward to what comes next. :wavey: :medals:

Great to have you here Lane. Seeing your upcoming paint scheme for the Ryan Navion makes me wonder what we have missed out on in the past. Looking forward to you being a part of our community.

Great job on the repaint Lane, I'm glad somebody decided to tackle that paint as it's one I really like. In fact N4892K was the inspiration for many features used on the interior of our Navion. For example the seats, rear arm rest recesses, rocker switches and a host of other small items all came to life after studying the pictures on the site you linked to.

Thanks for the kind comments. Wow, a compliment from the Milton Shupe. I feel like a giddy schoolgirl. Milton I am a big fan of your planes, the D-18S, the Aero Commander, the Howard, the Spartan...

Larry, she is a beautiful plane and a paint like that is only possible on a well thought out model.

I have tried to do repaints of similar complexity on other models that are simply impossible because of how they were made. This one is a dream.

To note, here is the next one. An early WIP shot that, because of the great paint kit and sensible texture mapping, represents about an hour of work.

A ways to go on that one, have to finish 92 Kilo.

Thanks again.

cheers,
Lane

Both of those paints are brilliant... really love them! Its great to see awesome work on my plane! I had considered doing that first one... in fact I started it about 6 months ago early in the build but got distracted... I think yours is perfect! I'll be downloading it myself! :D

Lane

Larry is not only a gifted modeler but also a very creative painter. Being able to look at a model from the stand point of how would I paint it yields some good results. Of course N2056 had some input into how to do it in the beginning he quoted a line that LH told him years prior "Make it paintable and people will buy it". Well the same goes for freeware.

Now the paint kit that's all Rachel's work and she did a bang up job on it. With all the different versions and flavors of Navions out there a painter should have no trouble finding subject matter.

You did an excellent job on N4892K. Looking forward to adding that one to my hanger.
