Dambusters Operation Chastise

Pat Pattle

SOH-CM-2025
You know I made a version of the Lancaster that carries the dam busting bomb (not sure if that is the AvH plane you are speaking to, if it is.....). With the model that I made the way the altitude lights are modeled is old.... Very long in the tooth. Since we now have Ankor's shaders there could be a way to use the landing light option for these lights. If I remember correctly the correct height was determined when the two light beams overlapped and the pilot attempted to keep the plane at this height during the bomb run. I know we can adjust the landing lights on beam size etc. I could take a look at this and see if this is more realistic than what we currenlty have. But if not it is good to see this old mission being revived.

The last time I flew this mission, IIRC, there were issues with dam placement and visuals. but I'll give it another go.

Going back to this, and the fact that, having installed what was in the links above, I now have 2 different file versions in my install! I think the game has moved on a bit since those days, looking at the credits. I am thinking if the mission has to be slightly reworked WRT the aircraft obviously, but also the searchlights ? (I'll check) Any changes in lights etc., mean the facility file has to be altered.
My suggestion to anyone thinking of installing Chastise is to install it into a new folder outside of any install, and then work out what';s what.

I assume the ETO version is newer. Also has the lights.

Weapons

I have 2; AvHistory_gb_DepthBomb_Upkeep and Upkeep_bomb. The m3d files are different and different dds file used; upkeep_t.dds and upkeep2.dds respectively. Neither use upkeep.dds. and I can't find it being used anywhere in my install.

All already there.

Seems already in latest effects?

Searchlights.
Are these the same/similar to the gb searchlights. or to those by Dan and called TOW searchlights.

sounds.xml
Do we have to mess with these?

I know in the past I have entries for all 3 dams in my gsl, so at one stage I must have had 3 facilities. Now I only have 2, mohnedam__ and ACC_Mohne_dam; both use mohnedam buiding, but just different lights and guns. However, I still have other dam buildings, dam_eder, dam_mohne, dam_mohne_earth, and dam_mohne_water?? I am still trying to trawl through all my CFS3 material to find other facilities to match these buildings and gsl entries; no luck so far.

Well, the mystery continues. :dizzy: I know my gsl has entries for all 3 dams,so I checked on the missions builder and they are on the map. I made a German recce mission over all 3, and they exist, albeit not well done, and pics later, but I still can't find any facilities to match the gsl entries, even with notepad++ searches throughout the install!I only have the buildings as mentioned above, (dam_eder, dam_mohne, dam_mohne_earth, and dam_mohne_water).

The Sorpe and Eder only appear in the ETO install, I'll have to check if the Mohne is different from the one in the Thrasmussan download above. There weren't any Dam Buster missions made for the Sorpe or Eder as far as I remember.

I know that I did a bit of work on the Mohne dam but its such a long time ago I can't remember what it was!

Yes strange, as I downloaded these when first uploaded and nothing came up, and now a trojan script, on Windows Security, having downloaded the first two, but not the last.

Have these files been re-uploaded at all at some point?

If they haven't, then I hope there's not a trojan script on the site!? If so this is a dangerous one to have, can we have these files frozen until the site is checked, as I wouldn't want anyone to by-pass the warning and get infected.

Cheers

I downloaded the 3 files from this server then pulled the same 3 files from the backup of the old server.

My Eset software is not finding any issue with them.

When I compare the files with fsum to check the hash numbers they are identical. The new files are the file name. The old server files are cryptic names that the old software used to store on the server. If you look at the hash numbers you will see that the first one matches the 6th one. The second one matchs the 4th one. The 3rd one matches the 5th one. This shows the files are the same and have not been modified.

Since these are all .exe files it is something about the exe that MS doesn't like. These exe files require admin permissions to install. That in of itself is just the old way things were done but should not have been done that way.

Looking up the Trojan message gets me to this site. Please read

According to Eset this Trojan name is a Windows Defender name. A very generic name see here.

Getting back to this. I would say that all 3 dams need some work still. The water and ground elevations are all over the place for a start. If the dams can be fixed, I will do new missions for all 3 dams. The training on the Derwent is fine IMHO, not that it's at all easy to do at night!
