šŸ¤” Was There Ever An "UnOfficial" SOH Airfield (In the likes of 'Emma Field')ā“

I have no idea why I thought about this now?
Well, yes I do.....:devilish:

But anywho....One that members could download and use the server to fly at with other members?

If you want a military one you could use my Hobbs USAAF base that I built for Milton Shupe to use as his home airport. From the file info:

This scenery package is for Hobbs AAF base in New Mexico c.1943 and includes the main Hobbs airfield (NM82), the two Hobbs auxiliary fields (HAF1, HAF4) and seven precision bombing targets located out in the boonies at their historically correct locations. It also includes AI traffic in the form of B-17E, AT-11 and Stinson L-5B aircraft. You will need your AI traffic set to at least 10% for the aircraft to appear.

An ideal base for the A2A B-17 (or any other B-17) or Milton Shupe's AT-11 Kansan (available here in the FS2004 library and it ports over with no issues).

There are more than 150 custom buildings, numerous custom static vehicles and also several rail cars on the camp railway. It works in FSX and P3D and can be found here:

I'd nominate Andersen AFB or Langley. :loyal:

Thanks folks - has me wondering what most pilots are here....Military or bush?

In the days of FS9 and Merc Air / Flight 19 there was a scenery for some place in Alaska or Canada. I don't really remember. It was their so called home base but most flights were flown by a plan they would work out. They never really had a go to all the time place.

Even when Tako_kichi, WND, Srgallahad and I got together we never had a go to airport.

Yah I think it's kind of "interesting" that with all the races, fly ins etc,.....There was never something like an "SOH Field" with an 'Ickie's Pub & Grub' as one of the buildings there.....šŸ˜‡

Rob and I still don't, we work out a flight plan and do it then move on to pastures new. For instance, we just finished a tour of 'soft' airports (i.e. gravel, grass, dirt, etc.) in Oregon and Idaho in Lysanders and then immediately started on a 70+ leg circular tour of the Mediterranean Sea. We began in GA twins but we could change to something else as and when we get bored.

I'm thinking both plus GA and a few helos. Self-loading freight jockeys (airline pilot types) will be thin on the ground IMHO as they tend to frequent AVSIM and FlightSim more than here. You have the power to throw up a poll somewhere Ed if you really want to know.

Oh no burning desire for me......more like couch potato/lounge talk :)

Well, does anyone else remember the FS2002 "home base" for Hover Control in Oregon?
Lots of helo pads, a nice runway, lots of trees, and just east of Portland. :wiggle:
I'm thinking fresh caught trout and salmon on the grill. :loyal:

I have several Hover Control sceneries installed in FSX/P3D at the moment along the Columbia River and on CG ships off the west cost and I made a flight plan connecting them all up. A bunch of us were flying online one night and we all had aching sides from trying to land helos on a roof top hospital pad. It's hard to land a big helo on a tiny pad while laughing like you've been huffing the whacky gas!

Both. Military wise, I generally fly out of Buckley AFB (KBKF) 'cause it's got an 11,000 foot Runway so I can by just about anything out of there.

Bush flying wise I fly out of the Ketchikan area; I installed every Bush strip I could find in that area including many of the old Bush Flying Unlimited (BFU) strips from both AVSIM and FlightSim.com. I also flew for Alaskan Winds Virtual, which is starting up again.

The hardest thing with us agreeing on an SOH home field is variations in sims.
What field is in most if not all versions, and what do we hope to accomplish from there, local area screenies, LZs, dirt/grass fields. local brothels and pubs, good wine or cheap beer? So many options.
I did a scenery for Diego Garcia in FSX, includes a static carrier, lots of sun and beaches?
Again, so so so many options.

That's why I initially said something along the likes of "Emma Field"....(Probably with not that degree of detail or function though...)

Anyway this works in FS2004?

In the spirit of 'Emma Field', methinks that a suitable SOH field should/could me a fictitious field, created by SOH users, for SOH.
Just an idea to make it unique.
So, any creative scenery devs out there?

Unfortunately the ideal person for a task like this has recently announced his retirement and that would have been Ed Wells (falcon409). A scenery like that would have been right up his ally and he could have probably filled it out with buildings he already had in stock!
