Current Favorite Plane(s)?

I'm curious as to what people here tend to fly the most, or have the most fun flying. I know I'm "different" from a lot of members here because I don't fly as much vintage or military, but I do fly some. The back-ported Albatross is a perfect example, along with the YS-11. But when it comes to just having a relaxing flight, I pretty much have two that I alternate.

At a close second is the FSW Cessna 414AW Chancellor. The systems work, and when I imagine chartering a plane full of people, I can actually see a plane full of people - something that seems to be missing from the minds of many developers. Even the environmental simulation is pretty easy to keep at a reasonable simulated temperature. (I recently picked up the steam Baron, and somehow the internal temp gauge got up to [not exaggerating] 177°F!!!)

The plane I most enjoy flying is the Black Square Steam Caravan. Even if I don't get passengers, I at least have a copilot. The plane is super easy to jump into, light the fire, and go somewhere I'm not. I wish they'd do a completely new version like their Dukes (I have and love the turbine version), and include a cargo variant with dynamic cargo that is visible according to weight. But for now, I just load up a few cases of "bat juice" from the distillery in Cataño PR and deliver them somewhere in the Leeward Islands.

New Yoke is out for delivery, once I'm up and running the new YS-11 will be kept busy for sure. But like yourself Tom, I like to keep things simple, so jumping into the Black Square King Air ticks all the boxes.

My current favorite is still the Black Square Starship. I just love everything about that plane.
I've also been flying the SWS PC-12, the FlightFX Citation X, and the FlightFX Piaggio P-180 a lot.

When I'm in the mood, my go-to tube is the PMGD 737-700.

For lighter, GA flying, I usually go with the BS Turbine Duke or, like Tom, the FSW C414.

In the bush, it's hard to beat the SWS Kodiak and the Got Friends DHC-2 expansion (gotta love the Beaver).

When I want to beat the air into submission, I fly Taog's Huey.

Always and forever, the humble Chipmunk, as in real life too. But also enjoy fast jets round the Mach loop, or down the Great Glen. Civil? the Piper Warrior.

The JustFlight PA-28-161 Warrior II is my go-to general aviation aircraft because I think it's the best representation of a 'run of the mill, everyday' GA aircraft.

Most recently the PMDG 737-700/800. Enjoying the sheer quality of the models and the challenge of exploring some of the aircrafts flight planning, navigation and auto-pilot functions. Weirdly I have a penchant for heavily weathered freighter variants which brings in some really great routes to fly.

Other civvies I like include the Carenado Mooney and the TBM850.

Military wise I love flying the IndiaFoxTecho Tornado and F-35's. The SD F-16 is in regular use. The brilliant SimSkunkWorks TF/F-104's are also great to go back to once in a while for no other reason than to delve into my collection of Richard's superb paint jobs!

Warbirds - I love the Asobo T-6 and the Flying Irons Mk 9 Spitfire.

I fly something I can fly in real life. My favorite is the NX Cub and Monster NX Cub. Though I could never fly one, out of my love of aviation history, like Priller, I love to fly the old warbirds. The P-38 and the Wildcat are both delights to fly. Ditto the two Nieuport fighters (just remember to cut the prop when you land, no brakes), and I love the Hawker Fury.

I’m in 2024 but current favourites are the CJ-6, Dave Garwood’s Auster, Got Friends Wilga and Mario Noriega’s C22J. Also spend a lot of time in the FR Gipsy Moth. Very much looking forward to the Got Friends BC-12D and Super Cub when they’re released, and the ATS Broussard, L-19 and Saab Safir if they ever release (is that a pig I see flying?.) Oh, and Ant’s T-28 when it comes.

My vote too for the T-28 !

Precisely, I discuss from time to time with Anthony (AntSimulations) and currently is working on a T-28:

The consoles, the plane’s gauges will be superb if I am to judge from the images he posts on this post (link above).

So excited for the T-28. Antony's stuff is always superb, and it looks he's taking up a bunch of notches on this one.

  2. AH Lancaster
