sneak peek - 2026

This A6M5 looks fantastic, really looking forward to it :redfire: (and I learned recently some new things about this specific variant of the Zero, like some small differences between the planes manufactured by Mitsubishi or Nakajima, even after all those years :jump:)

When I saw that DCS would have a playable A6M5 in their game I was curious and I crossed upon those threads, with information based on the models kits by Fine Molds in 1/48 and in 1/72 (https://www.finemolds.co.jp/FP/FR01.html https://www.finemolds.co.jp/FP/FR02.html https://www.finemolds.co.jp/www/newFB.html). In short the paint pattern was different (fuselage and the wings hinomarus), the exhaust heat shields were different (short for the Mitsubishi, longer for Nakajima)

This is where I also learned that the second type of drop tank (from Nakajima) was available from the A6M5a, I always thought it was only from the A6M5b.

Thanks for all the comments and interests in this aircraft. We are planning to release it on Saturday with all 4 versions. I am doing some last minute checking before package it together. There are lots of parts to keep track of. I just discovered the A6M5 starboard cannon is off by a little bit.

Here is my last paint scheme for this aircraft before it is released. I saw that we did not have a white paint scheme so I painted one.

This white A6M5 looks nice, makes me think of this postwar A6M7 in the US. I'm really looking forward to fly them :jump: And I can see how I could possibly make a bakusen/senbaku A6M2 (I think both designations are correct) like the one Captain Kurt did with the OH model (the Ryuho A6M2) and maybe both A6M5c/A6M7. Can't wait for Saturday :jump::redfire:
