Overview: Semi Historical: On May 17th 1943 the 322ndt Bomb Group was tasked with a second attempt of hitting the P.E.N. powerplant facilities located at Ijmuiden, Holland. Eleven B-26b Marauders of the 322nd participated. The 322nd did not have fighter escort, they took the same flight path as their previous May 14, 1943 mission and they got lost. Of the eleven bombers only one returned to base. The 322nd was then stood down and low level bombing was suspended. The 322nd was transferred to Andrewsfield. Flying the Mission: You take off at 10:50hrs from Bury St Edmunds (aka Rougham Airfield), England. This is a low level bomb run. You gain altitude until reaching 250ft, leaving the coast of England at Oxfordness. Fifteen miles off the coast you drop down to 50ft to fly across the channel in the hopes of getting under the German radar. About five minutes from coast increase speed from 200mph to 250mph and gain altitude. Drop your payload and head for home.
