CFS3 FIAT G-50 FRECCIA
V2.83.58
AvHistory 1% Aircraft General Statement and Installation Instructions
It is the intention of the AvHistory 1% project to over time build the most accurate aircraft that the CFS3 software can support. The development of a 1% aircraft requires specific and in many cases dramatic changes to the aircraft delivered with the MS game as well as the addition of aircraft built from the ground up by third parties which were never included in the original MS game. We believe that because the AvHistory 1% aircraft are materially different they should not be mixed with "box stock" aircraft in online combat.
All the planes 1% listed for download are qualified for use in our AvHistory William Tell Meet Air Combat Ladder. For information and to get the sign up sheet for the ladder please go to the LINKS section at http://www.avhistory.org
CFS3 FIAT G-50 FRECCIA
This aircraft was built by Bill "SPITFRND" Wilson using version 2.83.58 of the AvHistory 1% Assembly Line process. It is based on the visual created by and painted by Corrado La Posta. Please see the original readme file for more information.
Corrado painted this plane in the represent an aircraft assigned to 353 squadriglia, 20 Gruppo, 56 Stormo operating against Britain in late 1940. The 56 Stormo was a new one created for the Corpo Aereo Italiano (C.A.I.) The C.I.A. was assigned to Belgium in 1940. The fighter force was composed of the 56th Stormo which included the 18th Gruppo (sq. 83, 85 and 95) with the Fiat CR-42 and the 20th Gruppo (sq. 351, 352 and 353 ) with the Fiat G.50. Each fighter squadron usually contained 18 fighters for a total of 50 CR-42 and 45 G.50.
The Fiat G.50 Freccia (Arrow) was the first monoplane fighter employed by the Regia Aeronautica. It was designed by Guiuseppe Gabrielli as a all metal aircraft with fabric covered control surfaces, inward retracting main gear. It was first flown in 1937, February, 26th. The first prodution series had a sliding closed canopy that was not loved by italian pilots. Later models switched to an open canopy.
The G. 50 first saw service in 1939 for a few weeks in Spain with the Gruppo Sperimentale de Cassia. G. 50s took part in the battle for France in June of 1940 and were flown by the C.I.A. in Belgium for operations against Britain from September 1940 to December 1941. These aircraft were subsequently reassigned to Albania for operations against Greece. The G. 50bis was introduced in September of 1940 with increased fuel campacity and improved cockpit glazing. Most G.50bis were assigned to North Africa.
The G.50 carried an armament of 2x12.7 mm Breda_SAFAT machine guns mounted in the nose and later models were equiped to carry a small bombload of 2x100 kg under the wings.
