Overview: Semi-Historical: On May 14th 1943 the 91st Bomb Group was tasked with hitting the shipbuilding facilities located at Kiel, Germany. Weather conditions were ideal. Twenty-seven aircraft of the 91st took to the air. Flying the Mission: You take off at 08:00hrs from Bassingbourn, England. Preparations for this mission had begun very early this morning with the briefing being conducted at 03:15hrs. You gain altitude and form up with 26 other 91st B-17s above the airbase. You fly in the general direction of Germany. Approaching Germany you head in a northeastern direction skirting the Frisian Islands. Your flight path resembles a possible attack on Wilhelmshaven or Breman disguising your true intentions of an attack upon the port of Kiel. Off to your right between your formation and the coast of Germany German fighters will take a parallel course. At the right moment the formation will veer in the direction of Kiel. It is at this point that you can expect the fighters to begin their attacks Don't be surprised if the fighters are a combination of single and twin engine fighters. Intelligence says to also expect air to air bombing by the Germans.
