In 1942, he joined number 133 of the legendary Eagle Squadrons in England.
That September, he transferred into the United States Eighth Air Force: 336th Fighter Squadron, Fourth Fighter Group
On April 5, 1944 shot down his 27th plane breaking the record of 26 set by Captain Eddie Rickenbacker during World War I. Three days later he destroyed three more enemy planes for a total of 30.
Gentile and his Wingman Captain John Godfrey destroyed more enemy planes then any other partnership of American fighter pilots.
June 1944 sent stateside and participated in war bond tour,the subject of this CFS2 skin.
