AF Scrub P-43A-1 Lancer by UncleTgt
This is a conversion of AF Scrub's P-43A Lancer for FSX & FS9, converted for use in CFS 2. I chose to model the P-43A-1 model, as it had the broadest scope for use.
The aircraft are: P-43A-1: unknown Chinese Air Force unit, 1942, P-43A: attached to 76 FS, 23FG, Kunming, China late '42. A few of these a/c were loaned to the 23FG for high altitude recon & interception. P-43A: 55FG, San Diego CA, JAN '42, RP-43: 77FS, 20FG, Spartanburg SC, JUL '42, P-43A-1: 1 PRU, RAAF, NOV '42. Used for high altitude recon over Papua New Guinea.
I've included 3 different dp files for the different versions.
US_P-43A-1.dp
Really only ever used in the US as training aircraft, & quickly replaced by P-38 & F-4 Lightnings as these types became available, I've restricted it to a single "Guns only" payload. This file should be used for both the 20th FG RP-43 & 55th FG P-43A.
CHI_P-43A-1.dp
The Chinese P-43A-1 was fitted with rudimentary (& largely ineffectual) self-sealing fuel tanks & pilot armour. There are conflicting details regarding armament, but 6 x 20lb & 1 x 200lb centreline bomb loads are mentioned. It is also supposedly plumbed for a 41.6gall centreline fuel tank.
The ordnance choices for the game are difficult to reconcile, so the actual payload offerings here are: Long Range - uses the stock Wildcat 58gal droptank in a semi-recessed position. The airfile entry has the correct tank volume.
6 x 30lb_frag (DBolt) on a centreline rack (kate_bombrail)
2 x 100lb (Dbolt) on a centreline rack (kate_bombrail)
RAAF_P-43A-1.dp
The Australians made several field mods to improve the range & bombload of the Lancers they received. Long Range - uses the 44gal drop tanks from RobH's conversion of the AH Hurricane IIB for FS9 (AH Hurricane IIB, available at SOH). Again, the airfile specifies the correct 30gal size.
2 x 250lb bombs - Uses racks & bombs from William Dickens Beaufighters (WD_beauTFX, available at SOH)
Each dp also uses kelti exhaust effects.
The aircraft.cfg & airfile are a combination of AF SCrubs & the old CFS2 version with dynamics by Bob Boudoin and Bruce Thorson. Even so, I really struggled to get anywhere close to quoted specs, maxing out at 250kts & with a ceiling of 41000ft, but a range of 1100 miles. It needs more work, but will still give you a fight even as a QC opponent.
I've left the panel as AF SCrubs original, as I find the VC works well on both my WIN 7 & XP set ups. It needs a panel constructor to do a job on the 2D panel.
To install, unzip this download to a temporary location & then move to the aircraft folder in your CFS2 Main Directory. Choose which version to use & go fly.
Thanks to: AF Scrub for a great aircraft, and to Kelti for inspiring exhaust effects & prop disks.
This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions.
