Skin for Aeroplane Heaven's great Me109E, flown by Feldwebel Hans Troitzsch, 6./JG77, Wanderooge, December 1939. Damage textures included.
I choose the 71/02 RLM scheme, due to the profile not appearing to have the earlier RLM70/71, and the A/C was painted with the "new" larger cross and the swastika moved from the centerline of the rudder. The earlier rounded canopy was of course used until mid 1940, but the AH109E has the E4 style. Pictures of this aircraft exist, especially one of the tail showing the Werk No 1279 and 2 patched bullet holes dated 18/12/39 and three victory bars, all Wellingtons earlier in December. The 6. Staffel Penguin badge on the tail was designed by Kaptain Franz-Heinz Lange and seems to disappear from pictures of the staffel A/C after the Norway invasion in early September 1940. While the A/C were patrolling the "West Wall" most of the 109s were used with the factory Hellblau fuselage sides. Sources indicate that in Norway, with no radar and frequent bomber raids, the hellblau sides were doppled to make the aircraft harder to spot from the air.( Like 6./JG77Y1 - the other aircraft released today!)
I was unable to find additional information concerning Feldwebel Hans Troitzsch. While II/JG77 was assigned to Norway the Gruppe was credited with 79 victories with the loss of six of their pilots in combat, not including other pilot losses, including bombing raids and landing/takeoff accidents. Feldwebel Hans Troitzsch's name fails to appear in my source when the Gruppe was moved to Brest, France in November 1940.
