The Horsa glider carried up to thirty troops or a mix of troops and stores including a jeep. It was first used by British Airborne forces in November 1942 in Norway. That mission was a failure due to weather but set a precedent. Further missions took place in Sicily and elswhere in the Mediterranean TO.
British forces used mass parachute and glider landings on the Eastern end of the Normandy invasion beaches while the US forces did the same at the Western end. Horsa gliders were used alongside Waco CG-4A gliders by US forces as part of their assault.
British airborne went on to use the Horsa on major operations at Arnhem. Southern France and the Rhine Crossing.
