• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Semi-Historical: On August 17, 1943 the Eighth Air Force conducted two missions to damage Germany's war production capacity and put to rest the debate over the effectiveness of precision daytime bombing. One mission was to destroy the Messerschmitt factory at Regensburg and then fly on to North Africa. Where it was tentatively planned that after re-arming, repairing, and refueling the 100th BG would return to England bombing German installations at Bordeaux on the return flight. The Regensburg raid, it was hoped, would also decoy German fighter defenses away from the larger Schweinfurt Raid on the five ball bearing factories at Schweinfurt. This mission is based upon the 100th Bomber Group combat strike mission to Regensburg, Germany. One hundred and forty-six B-17s are dispatched to Regensburg from Eighth Air Force. Damage to the Messerschmitt plant would impact Germany's ability to replenish fighter losses. The Regensburg factory was producing about thirty percent of Germany's fighter production per month.
