A sleek deign made ugly by the hump on its back, The Be-4 first flew in 1940 but after two were built production was interupted by the German invasion. Production moved to Central Asian factory which made a further forty or so. Some flew off Black Sea Fleet cruisers and others were patrol planes in the Sea of Azov/Black Sea theatre.
