This a/c was a modified Mk. I for use as a day / night fighter because the RAF had to use anything available for fighter duties owing to the Luftwaffe's numerical superiority.
The modification simply involved adding a four gun (.303) pack to the belly of the aircraft. Unfortunately the lack of speed made the Mk. IF vunerable to enemy fighters and forced the RAF to relegate them to night fighter duties until replaced by Beaufighters. A number of Mk. IFs were shipped to the Middle East.
