Bristol F2b Fighter

Bristol F2b Fighter 2024-04-30

No permission to download
This model of the Bristol F2b Fighter was made by Frank Elton. I have tried several avenues of contact to ask for his permission to upload this model to the Outhouse library. All of these attempts have been unsuccessful. I was, however able to contact Gary Jones, the creator of the Falcon engine sound for this important aircraft. I thank him for his generous permission to use his sound package here. Thanks also to No Dice for permission to use the F2b panel found at the Free Flight site.

The Bristol F2b was one of the most successful aircraft of the First World War. Despite initial losses caused largely by a lack of appreciation of its potential and ruggedness, the F2b went on to become a much loved mount for many RFC, RNAS and RAF pilots.

This model is based on the aircraft preserved by the Shuttleworth Trust. As such it has the later lengthened exhaust pipe. Earlier F2Bs had an exhaust pipe which ended just in front of the pilot's position.

The robust and reliable nature of the F2b led to its wartime nickname "Biff". Postwar it came to be affectionately called "Brisfit" by its crews.

The DP includes a typical bomb load, although many "Biff" missions involved escorting bombers on tactical and strategic missions.

My repaint represents B1112, crewed by Captain C. Jones and Major C.F.A. Portal MC, 22 sqn., France 1918.

The original texture represents the aircraft in the Shuttleworth Trust collection.

Enjoy,
