Capt. Marvin G. Grant's "Sylvia", A2A WOP III P-47 2024-07-12

This repaint for A2A's WOP III P-47D was inspired by a profile and photgragh found in the Squadron Publications issue of "ACES of the SOUTHWEST PACIFIC" by Gene stafford; art profile by Don Greer. Don's profile shows the white and red piping to come together, they did not, as the photograph of Capt. Grant's aircraft and others of the 342nd FS show. His profile also shows the area behind the read glazing as being Interior Green, it was not. It was natural metal, as again the photograph shows. My rendition here is more correct. As I have mentioned, after 1943, the USAAF ceased using aerial wiring on P-47D Thunderbolts. There is no way in the texture to do so, but it is a small trite misrendition I can easily deal with. The repaint represents the aircraft of Capt Marvin G. Grant of the 342nd FS, 348 FG while serving in New Guinea in the Summer of 1944. It oddly still had an OD over NG cowling, that I just had to represent, not to mention the side siripe and Carolina Blue tail stripe. Some things stay close to a Southern boy's heart. That fuselage stripe was a *&^%$ in the oil cooler flap areas, but I finally think I got it. Don't go by when the flaps are open, you have to close them to check alignment. (Bang head!!!!) Capt. Grant hailed from Racine, Wisconsin and attained seven victories in campaigns in the Southwest Pacific, most coming during the invasion of new Guinea in 1944.
