Carolines Scenery for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a reworking of my Carolines islands scenery, originally released in 2012.

A report of a CTD when trying a Freeflight from Woleai Atoll resulted in a review of the VTP excludes in use, & I took the opportunity to revise a couple of things as well.

It is designed for use with Rhumbas mesh, but the scenery excludes provided should mean this works well in a stock mesh install too.

I changed the excludes used to utilise Rhumbas VTP exclude file for the area.
I combined all the airbases into a single scenery layer, so you no longer need to have Maskrider's Micronesia scenery installed. The airbases remain as they were originally, with a significant number being simple relocations of Maskrider Micronesia bases to fit Rhumbas mesh. I took the opportunity to lighten some of the background bmps to better match the texture sets in use.
The gsl remains pretty much as per the 2012 release, apart from:

I removed the stock palmtrees & replaced them with Wolfis Palmtrees. I also replaced the few "LDW_" trees with Wolfis palmtrees , just to save on the number of tree object DP files in use.

I removed the clunky pier objects being used as seaplane base aprons & added my own apron, ramp & slipway objects instead.

I replaced some of the AA gunpits with my PM_Hillside_gunpit object at Truk lagoon as several of them looked silly placed on the significant slopes present on Moen & Eten islands. Some object relocation was necessary, but I tried to keep this to a minimum.

I removed Usio's Lighthouse from Puluwat & replaced it with the generic lighthouse object, saving a ship model slot.

I amended &/or combined some of the many separate Landclass files in use, mainly to eliminate any "no landclass" spots (see my LC_patch_identifier upload if you have an interest in this), but also to see if combining LC patches improved scenery loading during transits between areas. I'm not sure it made any significant difference to loading times, but at least the orange rectangles have been eliminated (I think).

I made some low level flights around Truk lagoon & using FSFlatten I created small A16N water flattens whereever I came across significant sloping water around the edges of the larger islands.

Contents:
New Ground2K scenery & A16N water flattens, as required.
New airbase scenery, made using FSSC.
New gsl infrastructure, appropriate for the summer '44 period.
New custom Landclass & Waterclass, as needed.

The base scenery is as developed through to mid-1944, & the base gsl reflects this.

Known conflicts:

Installing this scenery pack will conflict directly with Maskrider's Micronesia package, & Jean Bomber's 2009 Truk Scenery.

As I did with the Solomons scenery, I decided this area benefitted from having a separate airbase layer. This should allow other users to develop new airbase scenery in the future, in line with their chosen period of operation.

Thanks to:
Jean Bomber for his inspiration, advice & support. He talked me through getting to grips with G2K & more…
Maskrider for all his airbase packages & the blended airbase tutorial. This set the standard for airbase sceneries for the game.
Rhumbaflappy for the new more accurate world mesh – it was a desire to make best use of this development that is the driver for many of my scenery projects. He also developed the vtp1 fixer programme to fix display errors in vtp bgls compiled from Ground2K.
GavinC for his reworking of the stock airbases, making individual base reworking/ revision much easier
Shessi for his water textures, that were the inspiration for my reworking of Jimkos Pacific Blues, & indirectly lead me to develop this latest set of water textures.
Lindsay Watt for all of his scenery objects & innovations.
Wolfi for his scenery objects.
Xavier for all his scenery objects & airbase sceneries, opening up a larger world for us all to fly in
Martin Wright for all the various software tools that are so useful!
Russell Dirks for his EZ landclass programme, making large scale land/ water class adjustments possible
Christian Fumey for his excl8 & Ground2K programmes, making the creation of completely new scenery possible for CFS2.
