This tutorial is intended to explain how to use a hex editor to modify how textures and surfaces are rendered on aircraft models. The topics dealt with are tailored specifically to those running CFS3 in Windows 7, but some of the information will apply to any operating system or graphics card setup. By default in Windows 7 a couple of texture effects are not active, but we’re about to learn how to get them back plus a few more tricks. I am heavily indebted to the tutorial created several years ago by Corrado la Posta, and without his efforts I wouldn’t have even thought to try to find these tweaks. I have posted that tutorial in full in the Knowledge Base sticky on the CFS3 forum at sim-outhouse and included it here in an appendix. It is still an excellent resource and contains some information I have not included in my own tutorial I couldn’t find a way to use it or isn’t functional in windows 7.
