DL 1% - Bf-109G-10 DB605DBM Gustav (B4 with MW50, 20mm MG151/20) Messerschmitt 1st production block WNr130359, Yellow 13, Pilot OFw Heinrich Bartels, 15./JG 27. Bartels was shot down over Villip, Bad Godesberg, on 23 December 1944 by P-47 Thunderbolts of 56th FG. He had just dispatched one of them, his 99th kill, seconds before his own death. The wreck of this aircraft, named Marga after his wife, was not found until January 1968; Bartels' remains were still in the cockpit. While no photographs of Yellow 13 exist to my knowledge, this is as close a guess as it it possible to make. The excavation team mention the rudder being a pale colour, which would suggest the use of the final type of identification markings, namely the yellow rudder and cowl bands. At this time, JG 27 did use the green RVT band. Other markings are extrapolated from those Bartels used on his previous aircraft. Yellow 13 was an early G-10 from the Messerschmitt works, and is in fact a rebuild of a G-14, as can be seen from the presence of two makers plaques below the cockpit canopy.
