VH-SBW [cn:15665-27110] [sn:43-49849] was built as a C-47A-20-DK at the Douglas Oklahoma City plant - July, 1944.
Delivered to USAAF, transferred to the RAF under lend / lease agreement - January, 1945, serial number KN241. Officially designated as a 'Dakota IV'. Issued to No 435 and No 436 Squadron, RCAF, India. Returned to RAF in England and issued to No 46 Squadron - April 1946.
Entered onto the BAR as G-AMZH - May, 1953. Sold to Travelair Ltd - February, 1963. Sold to Handley Page Ltd - November, 1963. Sold to TAA - May 1965. Entered onto the AAR as VH-SBW - September, 1965. Aircraft was named 'Jim Taylor' but later changed to 'Popondetta'.
Operated first revenue service with T.A.A. - September, 1965. Transferred to PNG to operate TAA's Sunbird Services. Ferried to Sydney (Bankstown) for repainting into company's new 1970s color scheme - November 1969. Operated final revenue service with T.A.A. - October, 1973. Cancelled from the AAR - March, 1974. Entered onto the PNG AR as P2-SBW - March, 1974. Reregistered as P2-ANQ - December, 1975.
Mounted on a pole and displayed outside the Air Niugini offices at Port Morseby Airport - May 1979.
