• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Dutch East Indies campaign - Part III.zip

Dutch East Indies campaign - Part III.zip 2024-05-03

This is an optional add-on campaign for the Dutch East Indies auto-installer packages, which creates a more difficult Japanese campaign, & conversely, an easier Dutch campaign than the version included in the original campaign package.

Credit for this goes exclusively to UncleTgt, who pointed out to me off-handedly in an email that during the end of 1941 and into the Spring of 1942, only Japanese large carriers (or what Americans would call "fleet" carriers) were equipped with A6M Zeroes, & that light carriers like the Ryujo and Shoho were still equipped with A5M4 Claudes, even up until the Coral Sea campaign.

Please be aware that this only affects missions where you fly from the Ryujo, you will still fly the Zero during land-based missions.

Fighting in the A5M4 Claude means that you will lose your advantage in dogfights with the Brewster Buffalo and Curtiss Hawk 75; they will now both be faster than you, though you will still be able to outmaneuver them. The same will be true for the other opponents you will encounter late in the campaign. You will also lose your 20mm cannons, so you will have to be more thrifty and accurate with your ammunition.

Conversely, the Allied Dutch East Indies campaign will now be easier for precisely the same reason.

To use this package, you must also make sure you install the two main auto-installers of the DEI campaign…

Part I: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?action=jump&catid=44&id=20079

Please note that these campaign and mission files will overwrite those included in the packages I linked you to just above, so if you want to eventually fly the easier campaign, you will need to back up the original version.

Thanks to UncleTgt for this idea! All other credits have been listed in the original Dutch East Indies campaign packages, with the exception of the Bristol Jupiter sound package, and the inclusion of the A5M4 Claude by Xavierb. Thanks, Robin and Xavierb!

Happy flying, and have fun!
