F4F Yellow Wings Buffalo skin

F4F Yellow Wings Buffalo skin 2024-07-08

Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat, pretending to be an F2A Buffalo of VF-2 Fighting Chiefs, USS Lexington, 1939. The schemes actually used on Wildcats aren't as pretty...

Just to reassure you - if you notice that there is scuffing and paint chipping on what appears to be a natural metal aircraft, it's not a mistake; US Navy aircraft received a coat of clear protective varnish, or later, pale grey paint. This one has the varnish.

The Buffalo is one of my very favourite aircraft; that dates back to my boyhood when I had the old Airfix kit, all silver and yellow and blue and covered in sticky finger-marks... They still make it, too. Anyway, I should be more than happy to see one appear for CFS3!
